Master List of Books
The problem is that "self-insertion" doesn't fit all the criteria. There are Mary Sues that are self inserts, but that's not always the case. Some characters are just bad. Some self inserts are just good. I would love if we could…

The term originated from a Star Trek parody fanfiction in which the female lead (named Mary Sue) was flawless in every way. She saved the ship, had all the male leads' attention, but remained chaste and pure and perfect. In that case I'm p…

Sorry for the late reply. The main character, Cat, does occasionally give me the Mary Sue (or rather Marty Stu) vibe now and then. However it was one of those things where you notice it after reading, or if you pause for a while to really think abou…

I happened to like it quite a bit. At times the series reads a wee bit like a fanfiction, but at least it's a well written one.

Sounds good, I think I'll reread it to brush up on the details. What time should we have it read by? End of the month or some time in January?

Sometimes the law makes my soul hurt. I hope she gets her lawsuit. And hey, at least this thing got publicized so future employers won't look at the fact that she got fired as a bad thing and not buy the reason.

Ah, no problem then. XD Not sure I'm familiar with Hibernation...unless you mean you ate a lot and are going to sleep through the rest of the winter months and you're one sixth there.

I thought I'd add to the book pile, since the next has not yet been chosen. Some short to average length science fiction and fantasy books which I mostly enjoyed. Unless you all hate them. In which was I suggested them for the joys of criticism…

It's fortunate this is just an internet book club then. If it was in person I think I'd be wary of any beverages you passed by way if you were channeling Jones.

I'll dash on over there. And I have faith that it won't die... the last few threads seem pretty active. You will return to open arms and the slow building applause of your Book Club followers.

The topic of rape was up, which is usually a pretty sensitive issue. For men, because they are often put in a very bad light, and for women because one in five have been sexually assaulted. I think Graz was just trying to show a witty list that show…

That sounds good to me. I don't know if there's a place where you can recommend books but I can think of at least two short sci-fi reads off the top of my head for the new year. Best of luck with the move, I know how hectic those can be.

I'd seen the list before, but it always puts a smile on my face. I like the clever prevention/awareness ads and posters.

Post Anime That You Want the Guys to Review
The last two animes I seriously enjoyed were Mononoke and Mushishi. Oddly enough, both seemed to center around a not-quite-human guys with a cool backpack solving peoples' supernatural infestations. Mononoke is shorter and weirder, but has very…

I think I see a flaw in the logic here. According to the article (I sadly don't know how to do the nifty blue box) "Knight argued Nelson was fired not because of her gender, but because her continued employment threatened his marriage.&quo…

I have no idea how to do that spoiler warning thing Xeno used, I wish I did. Spoiler: Wise Man's Fear While those scenes were terrifying, I didn't have a huge issue with them. In the case of the bandits it came off as desperation; they w…

Agreed. At first I wasn't sure he could meet the standard he'd set for himself, but in many ways I preferred the second book to the first. I can't wait to see what he does with the third, or the rest of the series for that matter.

Without going into spoilers for Kaazu, I agree with the Eld part. Though that didn't bother me quite as much as his chapters with Felurian. I kind of liked that there was at least one obvious area that he wasn't a master in. He made a good…

I should make a list of book club's unwritten rules. It could be a learning experience for any new members. They might think they only have to pay a fee. Those poor fools. Those poor, poor fools.

Don't worry guys, that parakeet clip or gif set is from a movie. The bird is CGI, so it didn't die horribly.

Avatar is fantastic, and Korra went above and beyond expectation. It's a very strong and fun series if you forget the movie ever happened.
