Microsoft announced at its press conference at E3 on monday their 'Project Natal' which seems to be a pimped version of Sony's Eye Toy. Personally i think it looks pretty sweet and if it can even do half the things its supposed to it will be good fun and worth getting (if the price is right). I can imagine its not going to be to accurate because these things never are, which will make its applications into games awkward much like the wii-mote and the eye toy, but then again the onscreen avatar for the bloke while he was doing the paint party thing did seem to mimic him quite closely.

Anyway i was trying to find some articles on the Natal and came across this http://seanmalstrom.wordpress.com/2009/06/01/microsoft-e3-2009-conference-narta-the-new-phantom/ I'm not sure why but i get a feeling like this bloke might just be a Nintendo fan and maybe dislike Microsoft a bit. And what's with the use of the word 'Parody' all the time? And more to the point what's up with this bit "And like a Godzilla movie with bad dubbing, it is as equally as ridiculous."
  • My dresses need never be frumpy again!
  • When I hear 'Project Natal' all I think of is maternity wards.
  • Its quite high concept.

True. But one of the strengths of gaming via controller is the compression of highly detailed activities (like being a ninja) into a concise scheme of button presses. Since I don't know a lick of Karate, can I really get any enjoyment out of a fighting game as represented by the promotional video? I'm flexible, but I doubt I can do the kick that kid does.

I really thought it was an ultrasound peripheral before I saw the video. :?

This is going to make gaming so strenuous. I like being a couch potato when I play video games.

I am sure this will only work well as a good operating system for an entertainment system, than a mean to play video games.

    This is horrible to read.

It was a hardcore snoozefest from then on. While I admit I have grown quite tired of the ‘hardcore’ type games, these constant sequels were yawners (or perhaps, just to me). I do not see the appeal of Alan Wake at all. Maybe it is because I find the narrative to be absolutely ludicrous. A real writer does not take ‘vacations’ out there because real writers do not have money to go on such vacations. And the ‘wife’ often doesn’t tolerate the writing at all and leaves at the soonest chance.

Sounds like someone fancies themselves an author. That's why he's got all the lady troubles.
  • Am I the only one who when I see Project Natal I see Project Anal?

    nope
  • Yeah, that really sounds like a personal problem to me.

After watching some more videos about it, I felt a lot better about myself. I'm so happy I bought a 360 and sold my wii because Microsoft just shit all over the Nintendo's concept of motion control. Built in web cam for live chatting, face recognition, full body detection, and no throwing remotes at your t.v.

Nintendo's going to be butt sore, Project anal indeed.
  • All this motion control crap kinda pisses me off. Why do we have to simplify it for the masses? 20 years of controller evolution just got it about right. Their gonna turn Modern Warfare 3 into Mad Dog McCree.

Ok, I know it won't replace the controller, but I just hate the need to cater to a market they don't even know exists as a reactionary measure to the success of the Wii. It's like they see the tea leaves and are interpreting them all wrong. It doesn't say, "Motion Control is Good!" it says "The Death of Gaming Approaches!"
