Capcom learns to count to 4 hurrrr SF4 thread
  • There is a game coming out today that is named Street Fighter 4. Stopping by gamestop later today, and not a moment too soon. Without thinking, I suddenly realize I've been tapping my foot and humming the Ken theme to myself. God, I'm such a loser.

I can't remember the last time I was this excited for a game's launch, though. There are games like Gears and Halo 3 I got at launch, but fewer that I've been so impatient for. I haven't played it at all yet, but top players have said it's a complete reset of the playing field; it doesn't matter how good or bad you are at any other SF game, 3rd Strike players and MvC2 players are all coming in on the ground floor. Anyone else interested in this game?
  • I will have this game by the end of the week and can't wait to play it.
  • I can feel it comin' over me
I feel it all around me

I been waitin' for this moment
all my life, it's my destiny...

Coz the fight, inside of me
It's waiting to come up now

No matter what, no matter how
I know I'll make it through somehow
  • :saucy: Fuck Alaska every game store i called says the game comes out on the 18th. I hate being so damn north. So I will be getting it tomorrow but we really should get people who all have free time this weekend to fuck around with a street fighter tournament between the Fast Karate forumers. Lots of "oh shits" and "whoooo's" will insue. :)
  • :goku: ITS SUPER DYNAMIC COOKING TIME!!! :goku:
Yeah, I got a copy. No need to travel to my local arcade for a while, now. This game is mad fun.
  • I love the game it's awesome. If anyone wants to play I'm MDCDET on Live.

P.S. Fuck Seth, he's a cheap bastard and whoever programmed his AI should be shot in the face and then burned! :goku: :goku: :goku:
  • Seth is a dick.
  • FUCK SETH IS HIS BLUE BUTT FUCK

    Because forcefields are fucking FAIR.
  • [quote="MitchyD"]FUCK SETH IS HIS BLUE BUTT FUCK

    Because forcefields are fucking FAIR.

Don't you just love it when he FUCKING SPAMS THE DAMN "TELEPORT BEHIND YOU INTO A FUCKING THROW" move. It's so lovely.
  • His "belly flop forward 45000 times" is worse. I wish death upon his AI programmer as well. I was on easy and ready to kill someone.
  • Oh don't forget about his unblockable shoulder of doom that he'll do if you get to close. Wait until you try him on medium, I almost twisted my controller in half. I almost forgot to mention his broken as fuck shoryuken that takes off like half of your life bar.
  • I just wanted play Cammy. I spent forever actually learning C. Viper in training mode because Seth is such a bitch. The solution: the hole in every AI is they will get hit by fierce/roundhouse in their face. For Seth, stay just at the absolute outer range of your sweep, and repeatedly do it to him. He will not know what to do with himself. I almost threw the controller at my screen when I almost killed him and then got hit with that insulting ultra... spin cycle in the yin-yang tummy cannon? Really?
  • The SF bosses have become more annoying over time. Gil was a total A-hole. I can't wait to say the same about Seth.
  • I don't know if you guys remember, but Bison in Alpha 3 is almost fucking impossible, so this is really par for course for Street Fighter.
  • I do remember. The problem with these new guys is their infuriationg moves. I haven't played SF4 yet but Gil in SF3 had two super moves, one of which did 1/3 of your health in block damage and took up the whole screen and another THAT RESURRECTS HIM FROM A KO. Bison was lame, but at least there was the pretense of avoiding a psycho crusher.

    Anybody taken SF4 online yet?
  • I was online about four hours last night, far longer than I had intended. Like Soul Calibur IV, SF IV measures your connectivity in one to five bars, but, unlike SC IV (thankfully!) it lets you prioritize your match searches on "Stability", or how good a connection you have with your opponent. It makes for a longer search if you choose to do it that way, but it also makes for very smooth matches. Even without that consideration made (it really does take a long time to find a match that way), none of the fights I was in at three bars or more were ever as bad as the lag I experienced even in a five bar fight in Soul Calibur IV. In short, it's gr8!

I think they could have done better with the Challenge Trial mode. There should be something to demonstrate how to accomplish the task they're putting before you, or something to explain the principle required to successfully clear the challenges. The training in Virtua Fighter 5 has just about every fighting game ever beat in that respect.

Anyway, the game is hot, and I hope to play all of you soon!
  • The game is fucking awesome. Unlocking dudes is annoying for reasons previously said in the thread. It took me awhile to be able to throw ultras out with some consistency which is about how good you need to be at the game to beat Seth.

    Spoiler:
The terrible opening song is growing on me.

Online works alright so let's get street fighting!
  • Alright, I'm sorry for posting twice, but I have something else (useful) to say about Seth.

    Anti-Seth Strategies!

    - He likes to do the Dhalsim stretchy-arm attack at the start of the match. Not always every round, but often enough that hesitating just a split second at the start to see if he's going to do it and then jumping in can net you basically a free jump-in attack. You won't be close enough for a more elaborate combo, but depending on your character, you might be able to get a jump-in roundhouse to low sweep roundhouse, which will put him on the ground--where we want him.

    - This shoulder charge thing he's doing is his Focus Attack, or at least one of them. I had him doing a chain of them, one right after the other once, and that was when I realized that it was his Focus Attack. Until I learned about them (Medium Punch+Medium Kick), I thought he was cheating like any other fighting game boss, but he's not. Every character has them, and except for specific moves that have "Armor Break" properties, these Focus Attacks will all absorb the first hit an opponent uses against them. What this means is: He uses it to absorb your pokes or jump-in attacks, and he counters with the shoulder rush. The solution? Commit to attacks that either have Armor Break properties, or only stick out one move with the intention of blocking immediately afterward. If you're confident in understanding how the Focus Attacks themselves work, you can even counter his next shoulder charge with your own Focus Attack. Charge MP+MK, absorb his shoulder charge...then unleash your own! He can't block it, and if you dash cancel the Focus Attack afterward (toward, toward on the pad/stick, though you have to do it before the move actually hits for it to cancel properly--only do it if you're confident that it's going to hit, or you'll just cancel the actual charge), you can get in and do a move on him. I usually just low sweep, because aside from the three-part Dragon Punch he does, his get-up game is pretty weak (on Medium or lower, anyway).

    - The matter of his teleportation to Spinning Piledriver is somewhat vexing, as he never quite does it the same way twice in a row, usually. He'll flit around the screen after getting a knockdown on you so you don't know if he's going to be near or far, on your left or right. If you anticipate him being on your right and input commands to do a Reversal attack in that direction, he'll almost always be on your other side and by the time you realize what happened, you're eating pavement. Though actually reversing it is beyond me, avoiding the pattern altogether is somewhat easier. If he gets a knockdown on you, just as your body hits the ground, hit any punch and kick buttons together. You'll get a Technical recovery, and get up faster than if you'd just fallen normally. He usually only gets about two teleports in before you get up this way, and won't often be next to you--if you're lucky, he'll be at full screen distance, and that means he might go for the Dhalsim attack again. You know what to do then!

    - "Become a Part of Me!" I hate this attack as much as the next guy, but the trick is anticipating it. So your second or third (or first, if you're on set to one round) round is going well, you've been staying out of his mid range (where he does that other hit-absorbing move, the one where he kicks you once and you feel it a hundred times), and it's looking like you might actually get him this time. You knock him down, start to go in and then--he does his Ultra Combo. Like I said though, the trick is in anticipating it, and you can bet that as soon as he gets his Ultra bar charged, he's going to do it. So don't be in a position that lets him do it! After I knock him down, if he's charged the bar on the hit that knocked him down, I like to jump in so that I'm at about the peak of my jump and just in front of him when he stands. Because the AI prioritizes the Ultra over the Dragon Punch (usually...), he whiffs the move and I kick him in the face. Be warned though, if you're off, you may get sucked in anyway (sorry), or the AI might just decide that a triple EX Dragon Punch would be a good idea right then.

    - Oh yeah, at mid or just between long and mid range, he might do that vacuum move to draw you closer. Be mindful of your distance, as even if you're blocking it'll still pull you in. But if you are blocking, pulling you in is all he can do. Let him make the next move, unless you're confident that you can get a move with higher priority off than what he tends toward out after you come out of your blocking state. Sometimes you'll eat an SPD, sometimes he'll go for a shoulder charge...Focus Attack, go!

Overall, I maintain that Seth is a dick, but he's not impossible. As you keep playing, you'll see the same holes I did, if not better ones to exploit.

*Just previewed and man, is this post long. I'm still submitting it...now.
  • I am really loving how the EX burst hit absorbs one attack if you use it right hadoukens will never hurt you again mwahaha.

Also what is everyones gamertag who doesn't have a signature bar... I have found through much trial and error that forum tags do not equal xbox tags. Dave and Joels are full so they just wag there GT arounds like princes haha jf.
  • The anime cut scenes look kinda bad.
  • Ken's SFIV story:

    Eliza: Ryu?

    Ken: Yep.

    Eliza: Peace out!

    ***
Fights ensue. Seth is a dickhole. Ken wins

    Eliza: Ryu?

    Ken: Yep.

Eliza: Holy sh*t a baby LOL!

    WTF
  • I almost beat Arrogance with Dan. 8)

    Spoiler:
He won a lot more than I did.
  • Yes they really should have did the cut scenes with the in game engine instead of the stupid anime things. I have never felt like less of a person when beating Rufus's story. Like seriously....seriously fuck you Rufus.

"I ride a motorcycle and I hate Ken masters wah wah wah."

End of story "Awww my bike broke down in the middle of the desert i still have you Ken Masters wah wah wah"

I REALLY wonder what demographic Capcom was shooting for with that one. Although I have to admit El Fuerte's story is just a lame.

    Spoiler:
Oh by the way SF4 has finally put the nail in the hammer that Balrog is a child molestor
  • I just read a tier list (lol) and I thought it was funny that Balrog, Vega, and M. Bison are referred to as Boxer, Claw, and Dictator in several places now just so there's no confusion about who someone's referring to.

Just wait till you get to Dhalsim's rivalry with Rufus.
It is by far and away the funniest thing in the whole game.
  • Youtube video of some dude making short work of Seth. I haven't tried this yet...he still kicks my butt on easiest...

If anyone has the Playstation 3 version hit me up "Chris_Mishima". I suck but I've won almost every match I've played online, lol.

    I'll play with you, dude.
    Add me under "Cakeshock".
  • Haha i have been trying to mess around and figure out if it is just me playing Dhalsim that makes him bad or if he really is the crappiest characters in the game. So i devised an excellent plan i went to versus and put it on CPU vs CPU, put all ai on hardest and just seen if Dhalsim can beat any of them.

So far Dhalsim has lost to E. Honda, Gen, Rose, Sakura, and DAN. With 0 wins i think it is safe to say he sucks and i hate that guy.

Alright so its turns out that Dhalsim has 3 people he beat unfortunately. He beat Vega, El Fuerte, and himself. But still way to go Dhalsim...2 wins...way to go.

A Dhalsim player won the national street fighter tournament in Japan. He can be good if played well.
This site really helped me learn the game: Here.
  • Dan's no scrub, though he's often thought of as one. What's really funny is the tier position for The Claw. I knew there was something wrong with him when I saw a delay between the low forward/medium kick to Rolling Claw move--that's one of his old bread-and-butters from the SF II days.
  • This game is bullshit.
  • You were a zygote when Street Fighter II came out. I cannot trust your judgement.
  • [quote="MitchyD"]This game is bullshit.

I need to play you Mitchy to confirm that you are terrible at the game.
  • Judging whether or not a fighting game is good is very difficult when it first comes out. The first time I saw Street Fighter 3, I thought it was a piece of shit, and the first time I saw Marvel vs. Capcom 2, I thought, "This game looks awesome and fun!" More than that, people have been playing those games for like 8 years now. The things that have been discovered, and the way the game plays is so different, it's unimaginable to the state of the art from 2000-2001.

On the other hand, judging if you like a fighting game or not is really easy. Sometimes a game takes investment to like it, or some games are just likeable. I think everyone probably has some fighting games they like that totally blow (mine is probably Samurai Shodown 3).
  • Are there any good ways to pull of the double quarter circle ultras reliably? I keep doing dragon punch moves instead of ultras. :(
  • [quote="Railith"]Are there any good ways to pull of the double quarter circle ultras reliably? I keep doing dragon punch moves instead of ultras. :(
Although it sounds really arrogant, just keep trying to do it in the practice mode. It took me about 15 minutes to learn how to consistently do the Charge <- -><--> move, but once I got it, it really stuck.
It also helps that the game is extremely lenient with ultra/super inputs. If you are hitting 3 punch buttons it will cut you a hell of a lot of slack when doing the move.
  • You'll get it. I had tons of trouble with the hyper combos in SF3 for the longest time. I actually played as Remy a lot because he didn't have a quarter circle move. That being said, I still spent a lot of time shuffling in place and randomly kicking.
  • Double quarter circles? What are you, a girl? If it was double CIRCLES I could understand, but people come out of the womb knowing how to do double quarter circles.
  • [quote="Railith"]Are there any good ways to pull of the double quarter circle ultras reliably? I keep doing dragon punch moves instead of ultras. :(

I'm having this problem too. I think you might just be doing the motion too fast. I've found that when I fluff a special then try to do the motion again a little slower it seems to register more often.
  • It also helps to do the moves on a joystick instead of a gamepad. You can make a "scooping" motion (two scoops!) if your opponent is on your right, slam your three attack buttons, and it's off to the races. Sticks might be pricey, but when you consider the cost of buying a good, reliable stick against replacing one that you just smashed out of frustration...

I'm a little disappointed that some of the control modifications they made to Super Turbo HD Remix weren't made part of this game. I was really liking the fireball motion for Cammy's Hooligan Combo, as opposed to the original offset half-circle used here.

    Anyone unlock Seth yet?
  • Wasn't the original tiger knee move also harder to do? I feel like Sagat is so powerful already, at least make one of his moves a little harder. I always used to play on controllers, and now I'm learning joystick, so I sympathize with having to relearn quarter circles and offset half circles. Even so, I'm never in favor of the wussification of fighting game controls.

    Also, scoops; Haagen Dazs.

You didn't seem to have problems doing them when we fought online! Thanks for doing so many tick throws. You did them so much that I actually learned how to do them myself.
    Sort of.
My El Fuerte game still needs a lot of improvement, but I think I'm slowly getting better at him.
It is a shame that I am stuck with the damn PS3 controller until March 10th.
Until then, :goku: :goku: ITS SUPER DYNAMIC COOKING TIME :goku: :goku:

I missed quite a few but that actually saved me a few times  . El Fuerte is sooo annoying. Vega and Bison flying all over the screen is more then enough for one SF game. You should play him more aggressively though, I noticed after a few rounds that I could punish him pretty easily if I kept close to him. I dunno, maybe that's just the way he's designed but I haven't fought enough El Fuerte players to get a good feel for him yet.

I'm still playing on a pad myself...I'm nowhere near a tournament level player and I learned Street Fighter by playing on the SNES, so, I've never been any good with arcade sticks. Only downside to a controller that I've experienced so far is my thumb is about to blister
  • [quote="Dave"]You were a zygote when Street Fighter II came out. I cannot trust your judgement.

People are using biological terminology as slang? I don't even know what that means.

    Are you serious?
  • What, it's common sense that I should know what "zygote" means in the context of... liking Street Fighter II?

    I made a baby?
  • He's just being cute. In other words, SF2 came out before you were born.
  • Well I will admit that Sagat is very powerful. When I play online mode people still don't seem to understand to not stand over your knocked down body because i will be doing a tiger uppercut that you will never have priority over. I love dan to i just wish they would have done what the did with Sakura's fireballs to Dan's fireballs. The jab fireball goes further and slower where the Fierce goes faster and shorter. Where Dan's fireballs are just...barely managable either Jab or Fierce.

    Spoiler:
    Strongs are for suckers
