  • I couldn't find a Street Fighter 3 thread, which I guess makes sense since I am quite late to the party.

But recently Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix got me into the entire fighting game mind set. After watching this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pS5peqApgUA about a month ago. I fell in love with the Street Fighter 3 game and the whole parrying mechanic.

The problem is that Xbox originals are crap and have barely a selection to choose from. The question in is there anyway to play this game without an original Xbox, Playstation, or Dreamcast? Also is that actually that enjoyable for anyway who has played it, or am I just in love with a parry system that is more janky than is it functional? I really would like to enjoy it for at least a little while, but I don't know if it is good enough of an investment to purchase a used last generation system. Thanks for the help if any
  • No offense, but you should work on writing complete sentences =)

Street Fighter 3 is the best Street Fighter thus far, for my money. I would recommend buying it for some system, if only so you can have a nice stick/pad to play on. As for the PC, I've heard good things about GGPO, and there's stuff like Final Burn/Kawaks, but I'm not going to help you find them. I heard the XBox version's netcode was actually pretty good in terms of minimizing lag, and GGPO is supposed to be good as well.
  • My problem with Street Fighter III is that it is all populated with characters I don't like or care about, kind of like Mark of the Wolves.
  • That is why what Capcom is doing with Street Fighter IV by placing the time period between Street Fighter 2 and 3 is a smart idea. The Street Fighter 2 universe has plenty of anime variations and a few live action movies to boot. I sure this familiarity won't hurt games sales either.

Plus there is no way in hell Hugo will ever be a replacement for Zangief. Also Crimson Viper is pretty hot... but El Fuerte Sucks.
  • [quote="PaniPoniDoom"] but El Fuerte Sucks.
    Wrong.

:goku: :goku: :goku: :goku: EL FUERTE FLYING GIGABUSTER :goku: :goku: :goku: :goku:

El Fuerte is a really fun character to play - he is basically Alex from SF3 done right. He is a lightning quick grappler with an amazingly large amount of mix ups.
He can't deal damage, he can't take damage, but god damn if he isn't fun to play.
  • I'm with Spanks, SF3 is a really good game.

Also, Alex from SF3 was Alex done right.
  • SF3 had great designs in its own right, and a bunch of old characters anyway. And Hugo and Remy and Necro were basically remixes of existing characters, too. It's a little silly to be hung up on SF3 being too "new school" when it's a 10-year-old game.

I went back and played Alpha 3 the other day, and ironically, that game is populated with characters I don't care about. Juni/Juli? Come on. Some people on this forum might argue otherwise, but 90% of that roster is filler.

You do bring up an interesting point: Mark of the Wolves and 3rd Strike are excellent fighting games, but most people who don't care about Red Parries and Just Defends just want to play characters they know. If you introduce new characters, casual gamers will be resistant or apathetic, if you rebalance/re-imagine old ones, longtime players can be alienated, so it's a tough call. SF4 might be going in the right direction if they want fighting games to be mainstream again.
  • The biggest problem I have been having with fighting games is actually having fun with them over a long period of time. Like I love playing the single player and getting the stupid little stories at the end of the game. The problem is having the fighting games I own remain fun. All my friends are pretty casual gamers and I can get them to sit down and play for about 15 minutes before getting bored.

The biggest problem I had with SF 2 Turbo HDR is that after I beat the game with all characters, I went on to play online to hopefully havefun with that. That gets extremely boring though if you are not playing locally with friends or people on the friends list.

Hopefully when Street Fighter IV comes out we can arrange some Fast Karate Tournaments!
  • [quote="The Joel"]Also, Alex from SF3 was Alex done right.
Yeah, I actually forgot how awesome Alex was when I was typing that up. From the shirt destroying entrance to the anti air thigh attack, Alex probably was the most fun to play in SF3. That being said, El Fuerte is just as hilariously stereotypical and awesome as Alex - and they play similarly to boot.
