I'm bringing it back. It's Street Fighter I guess. I played it alot when I was like 6 but I didn't know what I was doing. After I found Marvel vs. Capcom, I never really looked back. Well, I bought it for the PS3. I want to use Chun-Li but I can't do her hadoken well or her spinning bird kick. I mean, do I need an arcade stick?
I've been playing this for the last few days. While the sprites do look like that, SFII's low frame rate makes the animations look kind of weird. It only bothered me for the first few matches, though. After that you get used to it.
The people online are all pretty good. (Except that, without exception, every person I've played who used Akuma was a total scrub that got trashed.) I've discovered that the only character I'm really good with is E. Honda, but it's okay because E. Honda is GOD.
I mean, his jab torpedo goes through fireballs! You can't beat that!

I think that most people who are using him now don't realize that he is no longer rigged to hell and back. I'm amazed at how much more balanced they've managed to make a game which I had previously though was pretty much perfect in terms of balance.

True words. When I first popped it on, I was intensely bothered by the disconnect between the detailed sprites and the sparse frame animation. But as I kept playing, I just stopped noticing it all together. I think the actual drawings are a little over the top. . . way too many muscles that are way too well defined. But it's still an awesome experience.
So I played a bit more. For me, it's easier to do the kikoken or spinning bird kick when I'm at the edge of the stage but I have difficulty doing it in the center. It's the charging that's messing me up because I can't seem to do it right. Is there a trick to it or is it just a motion I'll learn through playing?
Characters with charge specials baffle me. I can't charge and then go *left right left punch!* without throwing my controller. It just doesn't work with the pad.
Something feels off about the game control-wise to me. I just can't seem to pull off moves consistently with anyone. I remember playing SF2 and being able to toss out fireballs and dragon punches all day long. However, I keep failing attacks when I try to whip them out real fast. Anyway playing it did bring a smile to my face. Even if every time I tried to host a game it wouldn't connect.
[quote="sad_genius"]Anyone who can explain the "trick" to doing the left/right/left/right+button specials on a d-pad would be most appreciated here too. You have to hold back for at least 1.5 (2 with lag) seconds for it to work. Like Joel said, crouching helps a lot too. You can still maintain a back charge by holding diagonal back.
Try throwing in a few extra punches if walking backwards becomes a problem. If your committed to an attack your sprite won't move back. This can lead to some pretty bitchin combos.
[quote="exagenous"]So I decided to pick this up, I am terrible but add me and you can kick my butt while I hit some buttons. My live account is amasher.
I feel horrible. I'm either not as good at Street Fighter as I was when I was a kid, or I was terrible as a kid and I've been lying to myself for years. I haven't even beat arcade mode yet. I'm such a sham!
[quote="blank"]I haven't even beat arcade mode yet. As far as the arcade mode, it seems like the AI has been tweaked a bit. I've always had issues with characters like Blanka and E. Honda, but I was thrown for a loop when I found myself having to face T.Hawk nearly ten times before finally shoving a Shoryureppa in his gut.

Its not the cheapness of the computer that gets me, its the fact that they perfectly execute every move they attempt. They never seem to do a forward jump instead of a hadoken because they over rotated like I have a tendency to do. The more I play the more I dislike the xbox controller.
