We read this book in my Women in Japan and China class in college and I think it was really fascinating. A lot of Japanese pop media for boys specifically is full of "sexy" images of women used as a reward mechanism. The male protagonist characters are rewarded with images of "sexy" women when they win a fight or whatever and the actual human boys reading it are given these things when they do good on a test or whatever.
In Metroid, the quicker you beat the game and the closer you get to 100% completion, the less clothes Samus has on. This is functionally the same as strip poker. -
The suit might be slightly more acceptable if she didn't have a wedgie of Snake proportions. And giant tits. And if it didn't look less like a skin suit and more like blue shellack over her body.
