What Are You Watching / Listening Right Now ?
  • Finished marathoning Shameless just in time for season 2 to start. If this does well enough I'm hoping we get a Dragonball live action sequel.
  • Wait, how to those two go together?
  • I thought shameless was alright, but I couldn't care less about those 2. More episodes about Lip or Debbie pls. Also the british show it is based on (almost a direct copy of) is on season 9 if you can't wait for new seasons.
  • Lip, Carl, and Steve's one liners are probably the best reason to watch it.

Also, Emmy Rossum's boobs should probably get a mention.
  • woops didnt mean to post that lol thought I had something else copied
  • Just watched Ip Man and am half way through Ip Man 2. Definitely some kick ass kung fu action. Donnie Yen has to be getting up there in years, but he still got moves. Heck, same for Sammo Hung.
  • Ip Man 2 wasn't nearly as good as Ip Man.
  • Agreed, even with a table-fight.
  • Well that is usually the case with sequels. So long as they keep packing the action into those fights though, I think I will be satisfied with the second one. I have enjoyed it thus far.
  • Dave said:

Yeah, I was going to say, table fight was the good part of that movie. The rest I can sort of forget.
  • Finished Revolutionary Girl Utena (show and movie) last night, and it was just as amazing as everyone said. One of my all-time favorite shows now. Those Nozomi box sets were money well spent, and I got a Rose Crest ring out of it too.
  • Haven't posted here in a while, but this made me think of "You Gotta Move." Except that it's a real documentary, but with a man just as crazy.

  • Picked up the album 11:11 from Amazon on a whim. Can't stop listening to it now.

  • Going on a john carpenter binge. First up was Escape from New York, been a while since I've seen it but it has held up well, still a great movie. now The Fog. First time watching it and I'm enjoying it. Next will probably be either They Live or Ghosts of Mars. I've never seen Ghosts of Mars so I might as well get it over with. Followed by Princ of Darkness and ending with his Magnum opus, Big Trouble in Little China. Sadly 'The Thing' seems to no longer be on netflix.
  • You should go watch Assault on Precinct 13! I love that movie.
  • I really need to see the "Escape From..." movies. I'm criminally inexperienced when it comes to film.
  • Correction: you need to see THE Escape movie.

    No pluralization necessary.
  • Which one is so bad as to be unmentionable?
  • Escape from L.A. is pretty crap except for the ridiculous surfing thing. New York has Issac Hayes, Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine, Donald Pleasence, and Adrienne Barbeau, so you know it's quality.
  • Anything with Donald Pleasence. He even managed to make that shitty Roman Polanski movie about rich people being imposed upon by mafia thugs watchable(ish).
  • Watched the first, two episodes of the TV show Bomb Girls. It's set in WW2 with women working in a munitions factory.

Man, this show makes you hate your penis...
  • You don't even give Harry Dean Stanton a mention? I love that guy. Also fuck Ghosts of Mars, Assault on Precinct 13 it is!
  • Anything with Donald Pleasence. He even managed to make that shitty Roman Polanski movie about rich people being imposed upon by mafia thugs watchable(ish).

May I suggest Puma Man, from MST3K fame?

    Seriously, that movie is hilarious.
  • It really is. I've seen it probably a dozen times already, and I'll be showing it to more people in my life eventually, I'm sure.

"Is that a bowling ball? Nope, Donald Pleasence."
  • I've been really into Flogging Molly recently for whatever reason. I guess its good drinking music?
  • So the new Fright Night is super mediocre. The only remotely sympathetic character get turned into a vampire in the first 5 minutes of the movie, and everyone else are nothing but douche bags. Also turning Peter Vincent into a Criss Angel like charecter was a super dumb move. I only watched this in the hopes of seeing David Tennant act like Vinvent Price. On the other hand Colin Farrell isn't bad as the vampire.
  • Getting to the end of the level was the only way to know that she was worthy.

  • I've been really into Flogging Molly recently for whatever reason. I guess its good drinking music?

Always good drinking music. If I'm going down that road, Dropkick Murphy's are more my liking though.
  • AW YEAH MURPHYS

    Listening to this myself:

  • Had a streak of about 5 years, maybe longer, where I saw them every time they came through NY. Sometimes every night. I should get back on that. It was, and probably is, the most fun I have at a show.
  • Watching the series 2 finale of Sherlock. Damn Sherlock is an asshole to molly, more so then to the rest to the cast.
  • Watchin Breaking Bad, now I know how to pay for college.
  • My mom has been marathoning that show over the last few days, she absolutely loves it. My super religious mom who yells at me for listening to Bob Dylan because his music is immoral, loves that show.

Yeah, what about all that homo-erotic tension between him and Young Bilbo? Sherlock just left him hanging...

  • Those to play very well together. I'm kinda wishing Moriarty faked his death too, cause he just steals every scene he's in.
  • Well, I didn't quite understand that psychic confab they had at the end.

That's one of the many issues I have with the show's inconsistency. They don't quite decide if Sherlock's mean because he doesn't know/care about social etiquette and tact, or if he's being mean on purpose because he's an egotistical asshole.

I also can't stand Moriarty because we're back to the boring Batman/Joker dichotomy of "the only foil for a cold, rational mind has to be a giggling madman."

Just watched 2x02 though, and I liked it because, you know, it actually had a mystery going on. 2x01 was fanservice + some 24 type bullshit. Also
    Spoiler:
it turns out Irene Adler isn't smart and can't do shit without Moriarty advising her, or Sherlock saving her. But she's a dominatrix, so Strong Female Characters, right?
  • I think it's because he doesn't care about social etiquette/ can't relate to normal people, that's why watson is always telling him it's the wrong time to be happy (such as looking for kidnapped children). They also strait out say he's a sociopath in the first episode.
  • I just watched Turkish Star Wars with one of my friends from film class. It's high quality.
  • This kind of inconsistency isn't unheard of with Moffat, I've noticed; his Jekyll series (which updates that story to the modern day in a similar way) was even worse in that regard. Also the show's constant fangirl baiting irks me.
  • But the man does know how to end a season on a cliff hanger. Now we have to wait for the hobbit to finish production before we can get season 3.
  • Just watched the old Birdy the Mighty OAV. Best dub ever?
  • Yeah, but like a cliched-ass cliffhanger. And anyway, I'm not sure "we knew he wasn't dead from the first second of the episode" counts as a cliffhanger.

Also, I know short seasons are the way British shows roll, but if you're gonna pretend that your show is about your characters and not wacky mystery solving hijinks then three episodes every two years is a piss poor way to do character development.

What little character development there is. I liked at the end when he's like "I'm gonna kill your friends. Watson. Ms. Hudson. And, uh, Lestrade I guess. I could only think of two?"
  • Watched the MK:Legacy on youtube. The Raiden and Scorpion episodes were really good.
  • I need to get my home webernets working so I can watch this 2nd season (hardly a season) of Sherlock and not be all spoiled.
  • Just watched Sympathy for Lady Vengeance last night. It's worth watching.
  • You also need to watch Oldboy too. That will complete the experience.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oldboy
  • Yeah, both are worth watching. Also, "I'm a Cyborg But That's OK" is a fine film, too.
