    I can't find no koku pictures. :(
  • 1 koku = 10 cubic feet
    3.5 koku = 10 cubic feet x 3.5 = 35 cubic feet

    1 meter = 3.28 feet
    1 cubic meter = 3.28 feet x 3.28 feet x 3.28 feet = 35.28 cubic feet

    ergo...

    3.5 koku = ~1 cubic meter
  • I think that's what I was saying but I have trouble communicating mathematical truths.
  • I was worried this was going to be a dull show, but that rice math talk had me on the edge of my seat. I think thats called edutainment.
  • From what I've come to understand, the insane Japanese prices for media has to do with population density. Their population is a fraction of what it is in the USA, so if only a certain percent of Japanese people are game nerds, they only have an audience of thousands to sell their product compared to our millions. It's partly greed, but also there's the higher pressure of overhead, since Japanese games/anime don't cost that much less to produce than American ones.

It's also the reason why there's region coding, since the Japanese companies don't want Japanese people catching wise and just importing cheaper versions of the same products.
  • "Your mom's like a light switch, she has sex with babies!" -Dave

Early front runner for the Fast Karate quote of the decade.
  • I do like "How did we start talking about Koku?"-Joel a good example of what Fast Karate is.
  • I have no idea what you guys were talking about for most of the podcast, but it was still hilarious nonetheless. Of course, the koku discussion was definitely the high point. So DAMN FUNNY! ;)

You guys need a show on the radio or something. More people need to listen to this.
  • I'm pretty sure in the post-internet world being on the radio means less people listen to you. But I agree, Dave 'n Joel deserve a wider audience.
  • Agreed. I should have written it like this: "radio" 8)
  • I have learned that I do not give a shit about a Koku, or however you spell it.

I also finally took the burning 5 seconds it took to learn that 83 yen is equal to $1. Plus Japanese anime fans get FUCKED on anime prices. OH WELL.

I also learned that Joel pronounces robot in such a way that it makes me respond like a dog does to a whistle.
  • [quote="YotaruVegeta"]I also learned that Joel pronounces robot in such a way that it makes me respond like a dog does to a whistle.

It makes you go to his house?
  • So i can assume that when Joel says "Robot" that instantly there is a doorbell ring and Youtaru Vegeta gasping for air saying "Hey, i heard you call me, whats up man?" :D
  • We've been sayin' Robutt since before most of yous were born.
  • I don't want to have to go back through the entire show, so anyone know a time stamp for when he says robot?
  • Imagine Joel's voice. Imaginary Joel's voice says robutt.
  • I thought "robutt" was just a Southern thing.
  • I think that's the way that Asimov used to pronounce it... also Zoidberg on Futurama
  • For Zoidberg, that's absolutely the correct pronunciation. Did Asimov do non-print interviews?

If I weren't, luckily, lying down on my bed when I heard that, I may have hurt myself something fierce. That seriously needs to go on a t-shirt! Talk about an ice-breaker yo.
  • I feel like we were already pushing the baby-limit with the first shirt.

Also I still have like 300 of the first shirt. So probably no new shirts until those are gone (never).
  • The problem with the first shirt is that you needed it to be "We name him Hanabi. He gonna brow up!" while easily the more racist option was also the funnier option. I think that you might be on the third or fourth printing if that was the case, but such is life.
  • I really doubt there are, by your numbers, a thousand people who would've bought the shirt BUT IT DON'T SAY HANABI ON IT SO OH WELL. I imagine that number is closer to zero.
  • How many active recurring users would you estimate are on this board Dave?

I ask because ordering upwards of 300 shirts may have been escessive for this board, unless you either planned on selling them somewhere else or needed to fill a specific order size in order for them not to be so expensive.
  • I almost forgot the "yo mamma jokes" being mentioned in this cast. You could have added such classics as "Yo momma so fat when she sits on a rainbow she makes skittles" or "Yo momma so black when she go to night school, teacher mark her absent" along with a dozen more i left behind in my floppy disk of childhood yo momma jokes memories.

[quote="Dave"]We've been sayin' Robutt since before most of yous were born.

Im not that much younger than you guys, im turning 25 tomorrow so im only a few years behind.
  • On this board, maybe two or three hundred people. But the podcast has 3-4k listeners (accounting for some amount of robutt downloads). So a <5% attach rate is shockingly poor. Lesson learned.
  • Oh man, I totally forgot about the Hanabi shirts. I've been meaning to get one. :?
Now i feel all bad and shit for putting it off until now.
Hopefully, you'll only have about 299 left soon
  • 3-4k listeners who like free things. :(
  • Can't you donate the leftovers to some clothing organization that gives clothes to third world countries? Then you could write off the donation on your taxes and get the money back for them. I'm not a taxidermist or anything, but I think that's how taxes work.
  • [quote="YotaruVegeta"]For Zoidberg, that's absolutely the correct pronunciation. Did Asimov do non-print interviews?
Asimov did a lot of TV & such. Check YouTube. Sadly, my son steered me wrong about Asimov's pronunciation of robot. He says it the normal way. Sorry for the incorrect info. I'll withhold tuition from the boy for his failure :)
  • There were alot of games that I played when I was younger that I would have no patience for anymore. I just got the Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection from gamefly and its got some great games, but some are some pretty serious RPGs that I will not have time for. Shining Force 1 and 2 are on there and I loved those and there are a bunch I never played. Beyond Oasis, Fatal Labyrinth, and almost all the Phantasy Star games!
Played them for a few minutes to get the achievements and seemed like decent old school games.
  • [quote="Dave"]I feel like we were already pushing the baby-limit with the first shirt.

Also I still have like 300 of the first shirt. So probably no new shirts until those are gone (never).
Whoa, I didn't realize there were shirts available. I was just thinking of getting one made at one of those custom shops at the mall, where they airbrush whatever you design you bring 'em. But soon, your inventory will have a-one less shirt! Wait, it ain't gonna brow up while I'm wearing it will it? Can my constituent pieces get a rebate if it does?

And, I feel I gotta give Joel his due on this episode as well. Damned if a day hasn't gone by this week, where I haven't visualized a giant war baby being rode into battle. Chompin' at the bit indeed!
  • We make no guarantees about the explosive safety of these shirts.
  • I bought a shirt. 8)
  • After seeing the stacks of boxes of shirts, you and graz should just go to an all fast karate shirt wardrobe. Wear the big ones to bed as pajamas, wear the small ones underneath your good clothes, and wear the regular ones around. If anybody wants to buy one they will have to pay extra for they will be pre-worn.
  • Just send them to me so I can burn them instead of my furniture.
  • [quote="SPIKE"]I was worried this was going to be a dull show, but that rice math talk had me on the edge of my seat. I think thats called edutainment.
I totally agree with this. I could wait to see if you guys were going to be able to defeat the numbers!
  • What ever happened with that one teacher guy who wanted shirts for his class?
  • It was a bunch of smelly janitor's kids.

And they got them (like last week)
  • Wow, them damned Chinese customs agents screwing over those poor, unwashed children.
