  • Huzzah! Thanks, Dave! :D
  • [quote="Dave"]Oh, I usually read e-mails and intend to respond to them, but then I tab to another window and forget about it pretty much immediately.

    Feel free!

So that "Basketeering 2: In the Shadow of the Black Camry" script I sold to Michael Bay doesn't need to give you credit is what I'm hearing here.
  • Just found this synopsis:

Everyone thought they were out but now they're back in. Rival Basketeers have moved into town, and the sponsors have taken notice. This really gets Greg's suds, sparking conflict with Dave who doesn't understand why Basketeering for money is a dishonorable practice. Now Dave and Greg have to ride to the top to show these new upstarts what Basketeering is really all about.

  • Movie poster: man silhouetted from behind by the headlights of a Camry in front of him, in one hand is a laundry basket, in the other a white towel, tinged red from blood flowing down his arm, the only color in the photo. Tagline: Two men. One car. Nothing left to lose.
  • You guys are making me so NATSUKASHI DESU NE.
  • Well, Basketeering was not what I was expecting it to be. I expected more basket ball and racketeering.
  • Having had the pleasure of viewing it recently I can safely say a synopsis does not do it justice. You must watch it.
  • Not the koala joke, sorry! I guess I'll post more info and art and stuff in the art forum when I get my short supervisor approved.

Truly there are a great many Fast Karate lines that I would do something with if I had time/money. Alas.
  • [quote="Dave"]You guys are making me so NATSUKASHI DESU NE.
*uses finger to adjust glasses* well actually, your Japanese grammar is off a little bit. 'Desu ne' is used at the end of the sentence to ask the listener if they understand.
    For example
    Soto wa samui desu ne.
    Literal: outside cold is
Translation: (It) is cold outside (isn't it).
*takes a few puffs of my inhaler*
  • I know. It was a joke.

  • Ah sweet an introduce your self thread. well guess I should explain the name. I thought it up because of my tendency to shoot people in the head and in the heart during paintball. What was it that drew me to anime, Well it probly had to be cowboy bebop, outlaw star, and Megus XLR.

Congrats! You are up there with Boritto Bandito, who also can't spell the word he named himself after.
  • Nah was gonna call my self eradacator but that names already taken by a comic book.
  • I'm here for the ladies.
been listening since twice the baki twice the fun, that's right here since episode 1. I've been raised on the chocolatey nipple of fast karate for several years, and through those years I've grown into a dashing, deadly viking warrior, ready to vanquish evil and persecute people that like Kanon and luckystar and shit for the glory of Odin, so that i may ascend to Valhalla and battle demons as I await Ragnarök alongside Thor and the Valkyries. I joined the forums to post stupid shit like what you just spent an hour trying to wrap your puny mind around. also, I have several hundred cases of bear meat and mead so if you need a pelt or some honey-beer feel free to PM me. steam name is the same as the forum name, i'm in the group, friend if you like.
  • [quote="Eradacater"]Nah was gonna call my self eradacator but that names already taken by a comic book.

Look, I know you are probably like 13 or something, but the word you are looking for is: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/eradicator
  • Hello everybody!

I'm Jae, but I doubt anyone will ever remember that, and just refer to me as Alistair, which is actually the name of a character based on me in a comic

Anyways, I'm relatively new in the world of exploring anime, but that's not to say I haven't watched it for a while. I started watching anime back in college (Don't ever let them tell you Cowboy Bebop is NOT a gateway drug), and kind of lived off that until some of my gaming buddies got me into other anime (They sat me down and showed me Elfen Lied...). Well, that was about 3 years ago, and I've only really started watching and collecting anime on my own since 2008.

I decided a good way to help me figure out what to watch (and not to watch) was to dive into podcasts, and by doing that, I found Fast Karate. It is epic. I don't always agree about their perspectives on anime, but I crack up everytime I listen to their podcasts. And even though Dave & Joel's anime tastes aren't always my own (it's about 70-30), I seem to share about a 90-10 perspective for video games.

Anyways, keep up the awesome work, as I go back through and catch up on years of missed podcast backlogs. Looking forward to meeting some new peeps.
  • Wasn't it awesome the part where that chick's leg was severed but you can see all the tissue separating and shit but there was no blood and exposed bone that was so cool.
  • As far as Dave & Joel go, when they discussed that Elfen Lied sexualized violence, I don't really concur with that. When the show was focusing on the cousins, and the girl being her retarded self (which they forgot to mention was pretty much because she survived a bullet through her brain), I could have cared less about the series.

I still think the opening is one of the best I've ever seen. I've seen crap where our main female protagonist is the ditzy, plucky, secretary girl. So when she stumbles in on the mass murder with coffee and then preceeds to have her head ripped off, I thought: "Thank you, God!" And while I admit that it's fair to see why they had the opinions they did about the show, I think they blew off the rationalization behind those reasons too easily. I think it's very possible for a woman to be naked just to be naked without it having to mean she's sexualizing anything. I think I've just matured past the point in my life where I see breasts and go "Titties! Boner!"

And I was disappointed how they failed to mention my favorite scene from that anime: The orphenage scene
  • [quote="Alistair"]I think it's very possible for a woman to be naked just to be naked without it having to mean she's sexualizing anything. I think I've just matured past the point in my life where I see breasts and go "Titties! Boner!"

It's all about context and sadly, as far as anime goes, the context is almost always "Titties! Boner!".

    Regardless, welcome to ze forums.
  • I do agree that a naked person is not really as serious as folks like to make it; however, I believe Elfen Lied was trying too hard to justified the naked retarded girl.
  • Semi-agreed. Naked retarded girl who pisses herself = bad. Naked insane killer who wants desperate revenge = alright with me.
  • So, that's a fun lead in...

New here, although I've been listening since AWO talked about Dave&Joel. Incidentally, I'm Doubleday's brother.
  • Hey, everyone! I've been lurking the forums for a little while, but I thought I'd go ahead and join. I like what I've heard of the podcast so far, but I like the crazy stuff you guys post at least as much.
  • NO THE PODCAST IS BETTER AND MORE FUNNIER.
  • I doubt that.
  • Until you can somehow aurally transmit cats with captions on them, the forums will have an edge.
  • I'm terrible with these intro things so the only thing you need to know about me is I liked turtles way before that kid said "I like turtles" was even born.
  • [quote="Brand"]I'm terrible with these intro things so the only thing you need to know about me is I liked turtles way before that kid said "I like turtles" was even born.
    Koopa or teenage mutant ninja?
  • [quote="wayintothe7thart"]Koopa or teenage mutant ninja?

Both. Though, I think Mario started it. Playing Super Mario Bros made me obsessed with things that are really weird, like mushrooms. I wanted to be a mushroom for Halloween once, like WTF?
  • Uhh let's see here...
    I like...
Basically the same things as most people here, that being things that are awesome.
Or not so awesome, or at least mildy awesome.
On the awesome scale of 1 to who gives a damn, it has to at least register on it for me to pay attention.

Oh and I like the Genesis.
    The console, not the band.
Not that Phil Collins isn't worth kidnapping.
I just doubt anyone would pay for him.
  • I'd totally pay for Peter Gabriel...Phil Collins not so much...
  • WHY PEOPLE ALWAYS GOTTA HATE ON PHIL COLLINS.
  • Hey I said he's worth kidnapping.
But then I would only listen to In the Air Tonight.
    ...
And...that Tarzan music...that's all I got from from.
    ...
I might need to kidnap the rest of Genesis.
  • Hi dave and joel i have been listening to you both for about four years now and it took me awhile to actually get on the forums but i did it! i'm pretty sure your'e podcast has made my life about 50% better. so keep up the good work and play this game.

  • Hi everyone. I'd usually post some quippy little joke or some such to an introduction on a forum, but I'm just hoping the power and majesty of my avatar can somehow carry the humor of this post.
  • Heya,
I'm Shane Flanigan. I currently live in Upstate New York. I got introduced to the podcast from a friend who forced me to listen to the Commando Episode of 'The Greatest Movie Ever'. I'm kindofa old school nut when it comes to gaming, and a passive anime fan overall (I do love the Chris Orr podcasts).
  • I only discovered FKftG about 4 months ago via GeekNights. Any episode featuring 24 absolutely slays me, so I've listened back through all of 2010 and am eying* 2009's offerings. I've been impressed that Dave and Joel can make things I have absolutely no reference for (most anime) also engaging and hilarious. I think the 50 Cent episode was one of their best!

I'm a comics/video games/rpg/board games geek. Probably would also be other kinds of a geek if I had more time/money :)

*(is that really how that's spelled, Mr. Auto-Correct?)
  • [quote="Dave"]WHY PEOPLE ALWAYS GOTTA HATE ON PHIL COLLINS.

He is in regular rotation for being sung over our Live parties. I don't know what it was about Red Faction Guerrilla, but he was out in force for that game. That hammer is hardly an invisible touch, but something certainly happened on the way to heaven.

oh, and hullo forum...I have come to you, a desperate, hungry traveler hurled from an attractive, top-of-the-line passenger vessel, cast upon your shores and looking for revenge. Or food. Preferably food, actually. Fatty's gotta eat before he sees his foes weeping and prostrate before him.

I would introduce myself in a more sensible and coherent manner, but I think that sort of defeats the point of getting to know me through inane dialogue over our pastimes, and what fun is that? I mean, there's the basic description: December Capricorn, long, silken strands of ebony hair surrounding an Apollonian face accented with a fiery red soul patch and a deep baritone voice responsible for melting the undergarments of consenting adult women of socially appreciable sexual attractiveness. I bring you this message from the easy waltz of smooth, effeminate hands over an excitable keyboard, eager to receive each deceptively powerful, confident stroke.

Anyway: Hey. What is up. Dudes.
  • Hello Dave and Joel, thank you for letting me on your forum. I would also like to thank you for the following, none of which I knew prior to listening to you talk:

    1. GOG
    2. Netflix streaming has anime
    3. I can read tsql at about 50% proficiency while listening to a comedy podcast
  • Greetings practitioners of rapid martial arts. I guess I'll cut to the quick by saying I like those Chinese cartoons (pretty sure they're called manga) and 80s pop/rock.
  • Have I introduced myself here yet? I signed up to bitch at you about doing some random BS show only I care about. Just didn't have such show before now. I'll stick around though.
  • Hey all! I'm TalonG4, real name is David Turner.
Love listening to Fast Karate as it entertains me at work. I even went back to listen to all the old episodes except for the stuff in the archive.
I can't say either Dave or Joel turned me on to any particular anime except Getter Robo, but it's the video games you've helped me get back into after a long layoff which is cool, thanks.
  • Hello, my name is Robb and I'm an alchah...oh shit, wrong place.
I'm a 22 year old gaming/anime enthusiast(nerd) from Canada. I enjoy gaming, anime and long walks on the beach.
When it comes to anime I'll watch just about anything besides the really sappy shit. I tend to go for Gundam style mech anime, but anything that isn't like Chobbits, I'll watch.
As for gaming, i'm currently playing Fallout: New Vegas, Mass effect 2, Assassin's creed 2 and just for shits and giggles, Team Fortress 2.

I'm usually bored all the goddamn time, so if any of you guys wanna play a game of anything online, send me a pm and I'll see what I can do about getting a copy of it.

Edit: I also listen to a lot of podcasts, something in the range of 6 hours a day at work. I think I've listened to every episode of fast karate except the first 100 or 150 or so.
  • Greetings from Utah

You can call me Policetruck and I am origionally from California but moved to Utah when I was 17 because my whole family moved here. I enjoy anime and I am currently watching Mitsudomoe season 2, Koro wa zombie desu ka, and Disgaea. I love video games and have so since I was 3. Currently I am playing Mass Effect 2 on the PS3, Medal of Honor and, as of, today Killzone 3. I do own a few guns and take them target shooting quite often. My favorite of which is my AR-10 and 30-30 Winchester.

Well thats all for now. Hope to have lots of fun here.
  • Must... avoid... Mormon... jokes...

    Whew! That was close.
  • Well I'm not mormon so go for it.
  • Magic underpants, that is all.
