Went and saw this today. It's not a bad film but it feels way too early to be rebooting this franchise. Overall I'd recommend waiting for the Blu-Ray, Avengers was a better film. Anyone else here seen this yet?
Yeah, I liked it a lot. And yeah, I've seen the origin before but it never really felt as authentically "Spider-Man" as this before. And it lays the groundwork well for a new franchise, and it establishes characters with great chemistry together. I'm convinced the next film will be the best Spider-man movie ever, and it will probably owe a lot to the pieces put in place for this installment.
This first one was pretty bog standard super hero fare, and followed a lot of the beats of the first Raimi movie, and suffered from lacking a really good villain (though Rhys Ifans was great with what they gave him). However, it's much better cast (though I still hope we can get Willem Dafoe back for a second go at Norman Osborn), and that 10-15 minutes of Spidey screwing with the carjacker and then escaping the police is absolute gold; THAT'S the Spider-Man I've been waiting to see. Unfortunately, that's the best bit, doesn't happen until more than an hour in, and the movie is just way too goddamn long. I liked it better seeing it a second time, but overall I'd grade it a C; just above Green Lantern in terms of quality and potential, but not all that great. It definitely shows promise, and I look forward to seeing what they do going forward. Andrew Garfield is fantastic, by the way; just thought I'd throw that out there.
It left me feeling eh. The only part I genuinely enjoyed was when someone yelled out "oh snap Mysterio!" at the end of the movie. That's not a spoiler.
I enjoyed that he doesn't make his own web naturally but I wish the way the webbing and it's mechanism would've been explained more since it seems to conviniently react the way he needs it to.
Although I enjoyed it more than the other movies, I still didn't like The Lizard who looked more like Killer Croc and the fact that they keep removing his mask every chance they get.
I just saw this movie last night...sigh there is a few things that needed to be delt with. Even though there is a load of talented actors in this movie.
First off spidey in the suit was basically spot on great CG and very recognizable imagery from the comics and video games during web slinging scenes.
The Lizard looks wise left me wantin as said above killer croc and he could pass for brothers. Also his combat was just bleh k wanted more tail whips I mean If Godzilla can go it why not the lizard.
The dialog was better than the first three but still only gave me the comic book warm and fuzzies a couple times ala car jacker scene just to name one.
