Show #480: I Promised Myself I'd Never Do Another Weekend At Bernie's Execution.
  • Do not, I repeat, DO NOT watch Iron Virgin Jun. It's probably the worst, most offensive thing Go Nagai has ever done.

The premise? A young heiress doesn't want to get married, so her pro-wrestler mother hires a team of cybernetically-enhanced perverts to RAPE THE DAUGHTER because the mother thinks her daughter is just shy.

Thankfully, the team of cyber-perverts does not succeed in this task, although they do manage to sexually assault the entire mansion maid staff.

Seriously, guys, that show made me feel unclean.
  • Do, I repeat, DO watch Iron Virgin Jun.

    Got it.
  • Saladitos are definitely not candy, and they require kind of a stern constitution to enjoy. They're almost saltier than just straight salt. Imagine condensing some salt into a small ball and sucking on it like a jawbreaker, then imagine it tasting a bit saltier than you're currently thinking.

Just don't imagine how you're teeth feel when you finally bite into it.

"You wanted 238% of your daily recommended intake of sodium, right?"

    I love the wiki article on this;

'the manga has many erotic situations and it's fairly close to a pornographic manga, the anime drops most of them to become more accessible for a broader audience.'

Yet according to Gobiburi it's still pretty bad.
  • You forgot the "[citation needed]", which is the best part of that assessment.
  • Well, this IS Go Nagai were talking about. And you made it sound like this is worse than Violence Jack, which I didn't think that was possible.

The DVD is about 8 bucks on ebay/Amazon, yet I don't get why its 5 bucks on VHS.
  • Violence Jack doesn't play it for comedy, though.
  • Despite Dave always asking if he's told the Tale of the Scotch Egg on the podcast before, I cannot remember hearing any sort of explanation of the incident before this episode. Searching reveals that he mentioned it here, though.

What did you think Saladitos meant?

  • Tiny...salads? =\
  • That's what I assumed.
  • ^^ That's what it should probably mean.

It means Salties (Best way I can think to say Salt in a diminutive way).
  • Deceptive marketing. Salitos, damnit!
  • Tiny salads would ensaladitas, or thereabouts. They way I eat salads though, it probably has close to the same sodium content.
  • Iron Virgin Jun

I think you're being a bit too critical about it. The don't think the rape aspect is ever taken seriously especially with what they use for penises.
  • Dude, listen to yourself. Seriously.
  • How exactly can one use a non-penis for a penis? And keep in mind: only a penis is a penis.
  • I retain that your description made it sound worse than it was.
  • I maintain that a blisteringly unfunny comedy whose premise is a mother who hires a group of lunatics to rape her daughter into submission is just as a bad as it sounds. Doesn't matter if they have a drill bit or a snapping turtle for a wang.
  • This sounds like a rip-off of Rapeman.
  • That's just because her mother was possessed by the vengeance soul of Jun's grandmother who was angry that her daughter ran away. I thought it was an entertaining and funny comedy.

  • I think (not having read it, and never planning to,) it sounds like the problem is that it's all handled in a light comedic context, which is FUCKING CREEPY, and signifies a tendency on this and other, similar authors' parts to downplay something pretty horrific.
  • Paul shouldn't be allowed to comment on comedy because he's a soulless automaton.
  • This sounds like a rape-off of Ripman.
  • but Iron Virgin Jun came out first...
  • Not first in my heart.
  • Now I'm torn. On one hand, the worst shows make for the best podcasts. But on the other hand, the whole "Rape is hilarious" thing just freaks me out. Also, is everything that Go Nagai made except for Getter Robo like the worst shit ever? It seems like whenever he's mentioned on the podcast its either in reference to giant robots or some horrendous violence/rape mashup.

Not 100% accurate, but pretty close. I remember Black Lion and a couple other things being... okay? He's a supes weird dude, and some of the stuff he makes makes for good, albeit weird, anime.

And then a lot of the other stuff is just shitty and lame.

It's not all he did but I like to think it's what he would like to be remembered by.
  • Go Nagai made a lot of stuff in the 70's and 80's and it kind of runs the gamut of both quality and acceptability. I mean Mazinger and Getter Robo is pretty good, but then you have stuff like Kekko Kamen and Shameless School.

I second Black Lion, only that was the most "general public" Go Nagai thing you can show people. Then again, I do like the Devilman OVA's he did in the 80's. If you "could" show Violence Jack, I am thinking Slum Kings or Hell's Wind are the most watchable, forget that Evil Town.
  • The original Devilman TV show is cool, too. I mean, yeah kind of misogynistic, but no more so than every giant robot or superhero show in the '70s. I also like the original Devilman comic but it is a straight up horror comic, not a superhero show like the TV series. The '80s OVA is similar, but the comic is more cartoony. It does have some misogyny
    Spoiler:
(a crowd of humans angry that her family has been harboring a demon beheads her and kills her whole family! But don't worry, because Devilman also gets murdered at the end)
but I'd say that's part and parcel of the horror genre it wholeheartedly embraces. Anyway, nothing like what Paul just described, no raping or making light of rape.
  • Well if Black Lion had to "rape" anything, it was taking Japanese Shogun history and adding in robots with machine guns, which might have possibly pissed off Japanese historians or something.

Which is something I don't see anything wrong with at all.
  • Don't forget that Grey has a couple of sex scenes in it.

Food Question: Cheesesteak egg rolls. Can you think of a reason *not* to?
  • I've had them before. They were okay.
  • There was some terrible shooter MMO that offered both a monthly fee and a pay-per-hour plan in blocks of something like 7 or 20 hours. I don't know how well it did for them as I think the MMO crashed pretty quickly.
  • Just getting around to listening to the new show man the fact steel battalion sucked is a let down
  • I am so happy my fried bread was addressed, and also you may joke about people baking their own bread in Canada. In some places (Mostly smaller towns only accessible by boat and nobody owns cars, no seriously I'm not kidding) most people do, granted most of these people are older then 50, but still.
