Going to try to start from the beginning
  • I got into this podcast from listening to the episode of ANNCast that Dave and Joel were on and was fascinated by those two. I then decided to check out their podcast and after listening to a couple episodes I thought I would try to listen to their podcast. However, I wanted to start from the beginning so I am starting from episode 1. I am just making this post so I can use this as a journal or time stamp on how far I am from reaching the latest episode. Wish me luck.
  • that is an awful idea
  • Awful, or AWESOME?

    Awfulsome?
  • I looked up the definition of fulsome and it made me snicker.

There's some good stuff locked away in those older episodes. I will always love the first ~10 minutes of the one titled "Poison." "This is Fast Karate for the Gentlem- DON'T POUR THAT MUCH!"
  • There's some grade A material in the older podcasts. The earlier ones have those Dinosaurian Empire rants that I love so much.
  • There are a few great ones, but the recordings sound like shit compared to the newer ones. Personally, 2008 and 2009 are my favorite years to go back to, but I think late 2006 is when the podcast really started to hit its stride.

When I started, I would just listened to a bunch of episodes where they talked about stuff I was familiar with, then I eventually went back to fill in the gaps.
  • Pyramid tank.

    That is all.
  • The SFII movie is still my favorite one.

I love that I made someone look that up. English get!

  • On the first episode the battery in somebody's smoke detector was dying, and the "beep" drives me fucking crazy.
  • I was trying not to die of laughter in my break room at lunch at my last job when I listened to the Total Recall one. That and the Bubblegum Crisis episodes are my favorite, but there are some really good gems. I just picked and choose the episodes that I would find interesting, which took me I think maybe 6 months on an almost daily basis when I was working at my last job.
  • I successfully listened to every episode chronologically from the beginning when I first started, but I cannot recall how long it took me (probably a year or so, maybe?). 'Twas worth it. Many a passing time in high school, long drive, and day of yard work was spent thusly.
  • I recently went back and listened to all the 24 episodes in order, and even as someone who has never seen a single episode of 24, that series of podcasts are pure gold.
  • I was just thinking recently that we could do with some new 24 episodes.
  • They could podcast on made up episodes of 24.
  • Did they ever do the early seasons?
  • They did an episode on episode 1 of season 1, but never got farther than that. From what I remember (discussions of Marwan notwithstanding) they started either at the very end of season 5 or the beginning of Season 6, but I could be wrong.
  • Anyone can make up 24 episodes, because all you gotta add is that Jack Bower held a gun to someones face, and yelled at them on where the nearest bomb is, thats it.

  • Actually, did they even do the season with Marwan? I know they yelled it a lot but I don't know if it was because it was an earlier season.
  • Nope, that's what I was saying, they didn't do any of the earlier seasons other than the very beginning of season one :P
  • I was kind of looking forward to their reactions to the end of Season One.
  • Ah ok, I have seen only the first season and had no idea if Marwan was in an early or late one, just that Jack really needed to know where he was.
  • They are definitely better episodes, but I did/do rather enjoy the Agent Aika & Ikkitous... ones. And since I didn't actually Ikkitousen I should be safe from attack. Oh crap, I just said it! NOOOOOO!

I think I went through all of them twice in about a year's time. My first time through, I picked individual episodes willy-nilly and listened to the show pretty much out of order, save for the Bubblegum Crisis ones. After that I did the sequential listen through, and man did things make more sense. Well except for 24. That show makes so little sense the order of hearing events almost doesn't matter.

  • I finally am all caught up with Fast Karate for the Gentlemen after listening to this podcast non-stop since April 30th. You guys helped make a lot of walks, car rides, bike rides, waiting, League of Legend sessions, etc a whole lot easier to get through over these past three months. It was weird listening to how you guys have changed over the seven years you have been making this podcast with all your random conversations. Now I can say I am a current listener of Fast Karate for the Gentlemen with the completion of Episode #483 on July 29th 2012.
  • My god, this man has no life:

This was the image that came to my head as you played LoL w/ Fast Karate.

I will admit your dedication though, so you have my praise on that. I think the new challenge is you get a free FK tshirt if you can listen to all the episodes faster than Balzak did. Dave, does that sound like a good challenge to get rid of those T shirts quicker?
  • Alright, time for you to get crackin' over here, then! We need more examples for the Running Gag entry on how babies are funny.

But how would we prove that they had listened to everything?
  • The podcast I'm about to put out is going to change this whole baby game.

Also the idea is to sell the shirts, not give them away. We are -very- close to being technically profitable on these shirts! ...if you don't count any of the hosting fees/etc I've spent over the years...

It's probably pretty interesting to see people change over the course of 7 years, even if they're not very interesting people like us.
  • Mmm....mmmmm....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... good question.

Maybe a way to track peoples ISP in downloading the episodes, and they have a period of time to respond back with a comment or their thoughts on the episode. You can tell who listened to them when everyone's comments are about the same. Plus, have it where no one can see each others comments, so you don't get people trying to cheat off others. So pretty much, the feedback is just in the form of an email to Dave or Joel.

Meaning we'll find out the results 2 or so years from now...
  • Well, thats why Dave said no, and I already bought a shirt today, so this idea will never come to pass.
  • My god, this man has no life.

Damn dude, harsh? Over the course of 3 months that's only like an hour or two a day. I'm sure most of the people on this Internet forum about videogames and anime have spent more time doing less.

Yeah dude. I know that my job pretty much gives me about 50 hours a week of crap manual labor and listening to stuff on headphones so I could probably burn pretty quick through all the episodes myself. Maybe he didn't read the whole thing and just assumed he spent the whole time eating hohos and clicking a mouse. Or maybe he's just being a dick.
  • Wow... way to take my comment way to seriously. I was obviously kidding, but that is still a lot a time to commit to a task like that as how I put it in my head. And my comment below the picture I gave the man credit for doing it, so am I really "that harsh?" So chill out guys.
  • I get ya dude. But it definitely had some edge to it, probably more than intended but still could be enough to be hurtful. No biggie in the end, just kinda pointing out how it can come across as a bit rough, even if only by accident ya know?
  • I spend most of my day listening to podcasts, so I ain't gonna hate.
  • I spend 4-6 hours a day entirely alone cleaning up after gross children. All I do is listen to things. I tear through my week of podcast downloads in about a day. If I didn't have audiobooks I'd go crazy. I even listen to some books repeatedly because I only get 1 new one a month and they last me 20-40 hours.
  • You just need to listen to more podcasts then.
  • You should be able to get audiobooks from the library. I know here we also have the Ohio Ebook Project where you can download ebooks and audiobooks from there website through your library. There is a limit to how many people can check out a title at a time, and you can only listen to it for like 2 weeks, but it is free and legal. I would think New York would have something similar.
  • You can also get audiobooks of books in the public domain for free. Amateur readers would be the only issue with them.
  • In the way of podcasts, I would recommend Radiolab as an excellent time killer. If you're into history at all, then I also would offer Hardcore History from Dan Carlin. It's a cool podcast, and tends to be rather long, often making AWO episodes seem short in comparison.
  • I wasn't really looking for recommendation, though they are appreciated. I was just pointing out how easily I could tear through the backlog of any podcast I might like.

Ooh. I'll have to check out that history one. Thanks for the recommendation!
  • Becauae i work third shift I listen to fast karate and greatest movie ever and AWO from episodes 1- current I just finished Fast karate and boy was it a journey...jones soda is the devil, phillies are just meat and cheese, and the Interwebs have concluded Dave has a sexy voice to the ladies and possibly some dudes
