AVENGERS!
  • New season started yesterday. At first I was annoyed by the whole 'all the female superheros being kidnapped' stunt that Doom pulled, but the ending made me forgive the show. And hulk's shenanigans with The Thing where hilarious.
  • Hulk and Thing were certainly the high point of the episode. Interesting to see Doom's threat assessment on each of the members of the Avengers; also a convenient way to reintroduce the audience to the team. I knew what the reveal at the end would be, but only because they were carefully foreshadowing it.

My only complaint is that I wish more episodes were out already. I got into the last season after it was already released on Netflix, so having to wait a week for the next episode is going to be rough.
  • I loved Doom in this episode. He clearly outclassed the avengers and FF, and not having his goal simply being 'I WILL DESTROY THE FANTASTIC FOUR' or 'I WILL RULE THE WORLD' was nice. Hopefully this means Doom will play a part in the Kree-Skrull war. I want more Doom.
  • I watched the episode again today, and I noticed a lot of little, subtle business that I didn't pick up on the first time through.

    Spoiler:
Specifically concerning the Skrull infiltrators and how they interact with their peers.
  • Is it streaming anywhere?
  • I doubt it. It just premiered on Disney-XD yesterday. You could still probably find it on Youtube or something, though.
  • I also liked that they brought up the fact that they where technically invading a sovereign nation.
  • Is each episode going to have a new hero-of-the-week? and are they shying away from the 3-4 episode arcs that dominated season 1? Still, I liked this weeks episode.
  • Remember, the first season began with 5 "hero of the week" episodes to establish the characters before segueing into the multiple episode story arcs. Give it time. It looks like they're building up to Kree / Skrull, Civil War, and Winter Soldier, among other things.
  • I assume that they are introducing the characters for Kree/Skrull invasion and civil war. I have no problem with it. Marvel has some great characters, and I like that they are trying to make a world where there is more then just the people on the avengers.
  • Miss Marvel is officially on the avengers! Now we need a Power man/Iron Fist episode.
  • Power Man & Iron Fist are supporting characters in Ultimate Spiderman. I don't think we're likely to see them in Avengers any time soon.
  • Is Ultimate Spider-man any good?
  • Quick, what's the name of the episode that introduces Ms. Marvel? That will make me watch this show.
  • Last nights episode, "Welcome to the Kree Empire" was the first episode with her as Ms. Marvel, but she gets her powers at the very end of the episode "459". Also she is voiced by Jennifer Hale.
  • Thanks! Is Carol introduced in 459 or does she up before that?
  • she's introduced in 459. so far she is only in those two episodes.
  • Muchas gracias!
  • Ultimate Spiderman has good animation, but I've only ever watched it with the sound off while I was waiting for Avengers to come on. From what I gather, it's skewed toward a younger demographic and thus not as popular with the crowd that likes Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

All of the first season is available on Netflix, Jeremy.

Also, I thought the most recent episode was pretty darn good in terms of the quality of its writing and action scenes. They're starting to kick things into high gear with the Kree / Skrull storyline, and this cartoon really shines when the stakes are sufficiently high.
  • Are the Ms. Marvel episodes part of the first season?
  • There is only one Ms. Marvel episode during the first season. But seriously, the first season rocks all kind of awesome! :D
  • If you don't have the patience for origin stories, you could skip to episode 5, where the team is fully assembled. The Carol Danvers episode is episode 15. But you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't watch the whole thing; even Captain America's origin, which could come across as corny, is extremely well-handled in the first season.
  • I am thinking on getting all 4 dvds since Best Buy is selling them for 10 bucks each and each one comes with a ticket to see the Avengers. I would much rather have a blue ray with all of them. But I take what I can get.
  • But I like Ms. Marvel, not Captain America...
  • In case you missed it, Netflix has a bunch more Marvel movies streaming as of this week, including Ultimate Avengers, The Invincible Iron Man, Dr. Strange, Planet Hulk, and Hulk Versus.
  • Hulk Versus Wolverine was fun. Hulk Versus Thor was boring.
  • I think you meant, "Hulk Versus Wolverine Versus Deadpool".
  • I just recently watched both the Hulk vs. and Planet Hulk (aka Gladiator with Hulk in it). I enjoyed all three stories but I found the vs. wolverine to be the weakest. I think it suffered from too many people on screen with too little time for them to do anything (but I think I'm in the minority here).
  • Hulk Versus Wolverine was fun. Hulk Versus Thor was boring.

Wow, I thought exactly the opposite. I saw Hulk vs. Wolverine as an excuse to recycle the same tired Wolverine origin story and combine it with some really unimaginative fight sequences in a truly boring setting. Also, there was some really ropey animation going on with Hulk there. I'm not saying the Thor story was innovative by any means, but at least it wasn't the same ground trod to death in the movies and cartoons for the past 15 years.

    Sold.

I agree, especially on the action. I'm kinda annoyed by the standard scifi 'exceptionality of earth' sentiment, but to be fair, the source material is also guilty of that. I though Mar-vel was the only real voice of reason in the episode.
  • I was kind of surprise that they used S.W.O.R.D. so early in the game. I mean that instituation has only being up and working since "Astonishing X-Men", I was kind of happy to see that green haired lady, if onyl cuz I know who she was from the comics :P
  • Hulk Versus Wolverine was fun. Hulk Versus Thor was boring.

Hulk vs. Thor was basically The Death of Superman, except not entirely sucky all the time.
  • Power Man & Iron Fist are supporting characters in Ultimate Spiderman. I don't think we're likely to see them in Avengers any time soon.

    Oh Snap!

    :P
  • Well, I stand corrected.
  • YAY! Luke Cage sounds exactly like he should sound. I am very excited about this!
  • Re-watching the whole season before the movie during a rainy day. It is so much better on a second watch. Many episodes are very re-watchable which surprises me when it comes to cartoons. It helps that most of the battles are pretty epic!
  • The Ant-Man centered episode was a pretty good.
    Spoiler:
I was wondering if Pym would would continue as Ant-Man after last season. I am kind of sad to see him go but I am ok with the new guy, specially since they are kind of following the chronological order of the comics
  • ROCKET RACCOON!
  • You see that Paul? What up!
  • Okay, so you're both furries. I'll admit, though, Rocket Racoon was a total bad ass in this week's episode.
  • Given my love of Squirrel Girl, I can't say you are wrong about that.
  • Wait Squirrel Girl = furry? Fuuuuck
  • You guys are really making me want to give that show a second chance.
  • Rocket Raccoon is always a badass.

The fact that you gave up on the show in the first place shows that there's something seriously warped with your perspective. Seek professional help immediately.

In all seriousness, why did you stop watching?
  • Guardians of the Galaxy is supposedly the next movie franchise being eyed by marvel studios.
  • While I love Guardians of the Galaxy, I don’t know if it could be made into a good film, much less a film people would go and see. There’s just too much cosmic marvel stuff that would have to be info-dumped at the start of the movie. I just read that Edgar Wright might finally start moving ahead on an Ant man film focusing on science adventuring, and that sounds like it could be super fun.
I also really dig the Avengers cartoon because it’s probably the first Marvel cartoon that has captured that DC/Paul Dini level of storytelling of really refining what’s best about a character and presenting it well as well as not treating kids as dumb. It just makes me sad that, if rumors are to be trusted , the will not be renewed because of it differing from the new Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, which I don’t particularly like even though that show ironically actually has Paul Dini working on it.

This is such a BS response but you have to give the show at least six episodes before it gets going. The first five are just showing an updated origin/introduction for Thor, Hulk, Iron Man and Captain America or introducing characters like Hank Pym or Janet van Dyne.

These were the episodes that focused on single members of the team before they became a team, right?
