Good choice. I think I will visit my local library and see if they have a copy available. It's one I've been meaning to read in its entirety for some time. And it has less Latin in it than Foucault's Pendulum.
For me, the lesson of Catch-22 was that no system will give you a way to legitimately exit that system. The only way to not be subject to the system is to transgress it.
I started this book way back in like my sophmore year of high school, loved it, for some reason never finished it. Now just might be the time, I think. Although I'm poised to finish Corey Doctorow's "Content" and have Shusaku Endo's "Deep River" waiting as well, but we'll see. Incidentally, Endo would be a good author for a discussion: one of the great Japanese authors of the last century who was also that rarity of rarities in Japan, a devout Christian. His "Shameless" was both brilliant and scathing, I can't wait to read more. But yeah, digression over. Back to Catch-22, is the film adaptation worth checking out by-the-by?
Yay, first book club in a while I'm back in! I got a new Audible credit this morning so I grabbed it. I'll be done with the book by Monday... Only good part of my job.
I've got a copy in my personal library that I've always wanted to read, but I've never had the time to read. If I had the time to read it though, I never wanted to read it! *ahem* Doing book club this month because of that.
I finally finished it, yeah I'm behind big whoop wanna fight about it? Major Major is the best character. I enjoyed it. It made me laugh like an idiot on several occasions.
