An Evil Guest (March 2012)
  • This month's book is An Evil Guest by Gene Wolfe.

Yakov, this book better not suck! =D
  • GOD DAMN I LOVE THIS BOOK! Seriously, it is one of my favorites. Warning: Gene Wolfe is not an easy read. His prose are fine, but he has entire plots that are told through indirect implication. Pay attention to the details, they are far more important then with most books. I think this book is a shining example of why Wolfe is regarded as one of the most talented writers alive today. Some people will hate it, but hopefully most of you will enjoy it. I can't wait to talk about the werewolf and it's implications!
  • Got my copy from amazon today. If you haven't picked it up yet, they have it for $6, which is a steal. Anyone started it yet?
  • Mine should get to my house today. I'm going to finish Zoo City then pick it up. I may have to abandon Zoo City for this and ME3, though.
  • Sweet. I'm excited to start talking about this book. I love what Wolfe does with narrative, and this book does some rather impressive feats with it. I'll refrain from discussing any of my theories about the book till people have finished it.
  • On amazon is says it's free on Kindle but I'm thinking it's probably some type of subcription scam.

EDIT: Nevermind it's The Evil Guest that's free
  • Now that I'm on spring break I should have this reread by the end of next week. Noticing all sorts of things I missed the first time I read it. What are you guys thinking about it?
  • Just finished it. Far more satisfied with the ending then when I originally read it. Anyone else finished or nearly finished?
  • My copy is sitting in southern Ohio. I can't make myself drive down there. Perhaps I really am a bad example =(
  • I'm plowing through it. Cassy is a little annoying.
  • She kinda is, but it works with what I think Wolfe intentional story for her is. How far are you?
  • About 100 pages.
