Vexille:the Game aka Binary Domain
  • Aside from the clever title I got nothing. Not even a Sega fan. But supposedly a lot is riding on it. And well it just seems to disturbingly retro and western audience appealing too, despite...

I mean Vexille is really just Appleseed. Overall the Modern Warfare series isn't something incongruous with Japanese entertainment, aside from obviously playing off and reflecting American fears and reactions and military fantasies. Angel Cop and the 80s works of Koike, most of Masamune Shirow's work, Patlabor, Silent Service, etc.

But it still seems odd the milsquad shooter hasn't taken hold. Admittedly this is old new. Appartently BF3 and MW3 were much better hits than prior outings.

Still Binary domains trailers and openings are insanely familiar if you have seen Vexille. And the vision of the future isn't exactly original either. Very upper class 80s boutique mall. I half expect to smell a nail shop or see ads for Oprah on at 4.

The model design is okay but you can't help but feel this is just a little...out of prefab box. I do hope it succeeds even with that squad members matter system.

Anyone else intrigued, ready, or just enthused. Maybe this will be the Alpha Protocol of this year, decent in its own way, flawed in some others, but not bad and overshadowed by the latest Mass Effect release and anticipation
  • AP's greatest strength was the writing, I don't think Binary will hold up in the same way. I'm still rather interested though.
