Show #463: Golgo 13 Has Too Much Dignity!
  • I just spent 10 minutes listening to a Careless Whisper Saxophone loop thanks to this podcast. Thanks guys.

  • I'll confess: I paused the podcast at that point just to load the loop on YouTube.
  • Yep, so did I. The podcast is as of yet unfinished.
  • Joel linked me that right after we finished.
  • Clicking that video reminded me of

  • AMAZING.
  • I'm almost positive you showed me that...
  • You beat me to it, Squirrel! The entire time you guys talked about Careless Whisper, that video was all I could think about.
  • I have definitely never seen that before. It gave me ten thousand lulz.
  • Is the marshmallow snack packs thing better off not being explained?

Also Golgo 13 DVD cover is the second image result in Google for 'marshmallow snack packs'. I sense some real cross-promotional synergy here.
  • Dude, one of Golgo's hands is on backwards in that picture or like, he has two right hands. Or something.
  • Ewww, that is terrifying and gross.
  • I think that big finger that looks like a thumb is actually his index finger, and his thumb is hidden behind the gun. Though yes, on first glance it looks like two right hands.
  • Cut yourself open.
  • All you need to know about marshmallow snack packs is what was said in the podcast. The minute you think about buying something like that:

    LOOK AT YOURSELF.
  • What are marshmallow snack packs? I did a google search and see mostly rice crispy snacks.
  • Don Cheadle did indeed star in The Guard, Dave. So racism averted, and a gold star!

Did this play when Golgo arrived in Baltimore? http://youtube.com/watch?v=q3UNGHoA2aY
  • I wasn't talking about The Guard, though.
  • Yep, so did I. The podcast is as of yet unfinished.

    Ditto.
  • Is it weird that I find the Golgo 13 show kinda soothing? I think it's the predictability and the relaxed pace of the show.
  • I agree Shaloop. It's like, if this insane killer can pile corpses on each other one after another in this work-a-day world I can make it, too.
  • Golgo 13 knows that if he ever misses a shot, the laughing dog from his nightmares will return to haunt him.

This is the same reason I enjoyed watching Scooby Doo. It was easy to sink into a couch after a long day and know exactly what you'd be getting in a "new" episode. What I'm saying is they're basically the same show.
  • "And I would've gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for that meddling assassin!"
  • This is pertinent:
  • That is freaking weird.
  • Not so weird, really. You've reached the point where Mike Toole is stealing your jokes, rather than vice versa. :D
  • On the topic of Golgo 13, my favorite story is the one where he has to assassinate a man in prison (like many Golgo 13 stories) who is going to be pardoned by the corrupt governor. Unlike other G13 prison stories he instead deems it impossible to get in the prison and kill him so he assassinates the governor through his bullet-proof windows and because the governor is dead he can't get pardoned and is executed normally.
  • Why can't he wait for him to be pardoned and then kill him?
  • Yea, I feel like killing the governor would probably not be a solution that would be accepted by his employers.
  • They just spent $1 million. They're rich. They don't give a FUCK.

I appreciate the times in which the Golgo 13 manga was published. Now, even with the asking price of $3 million, he hasn't scaled with interest, it seems like even the common man would be able to afford Golgo 13. It's the new American dream.
  • I wonder if Golgo would charge more to kill a group of people that he would to kill a single person. Meaning, is his rate per target or per job?
  • It might be per original target, but he doesnt seem to tack on extra for incidental victims (he may file them under "expenses"?)
  • Hey, those are some good tax write-offs.
  • Just finished that podcast yesterday, and guess what I've been whistling all day long?

    Thanks for nothing guys!

Yeah, but that seems like it's not the sort of overwrought neatness Golgo 13 goes for. We're talking about the guy who shot the dude jumping from a building. He wasn't willing to take the lazy shortcut and let GRAVITY do the work for him, why would he let a state execution go?

What's next, Golgo 13 goes to the supermarket the target frequents, and takes all the olive oil, so the target is forced to eat foods with trans fats, and calling that good enough?
  • Maybe Golgo 13 works the same way that you do when you do "per diem" expense charging. Like, most of the assassinations don't actually cost three million dollars; he just banks the extra money, and then eats the cost on the ones that go over. That makes the accounting a lot simpler than trying to figure out how much to charge for each incidental innocent bystander or security guard.
