NEW SHIT ON DIS WEBSITE
  • I had always used fan-service.org/forum when I typed it in, for some reason. Stodgy old fuck that I am, I didn't want to change, but I have. Fixating on the inconsequential: a hallmark of the perennially disappointed.
  • Fixating on the inconsequential: a hallmark of nerds

    Fixed that for ya.

  • What's wrong with bookmarks?
  • Keyboard commands, dawg.
  • CTRL-L selects the address bar, and then you can just type your address in. Bookmarks require too much hunting in the menu structure, and using the toolbar means swapping back to the mouse. Just easier to type.
  • It sounds like you would browse with the keyboard if you could.
  • If it made sense, yes.
  • Is there a way to go to most recent comment from the thread listing directly? I guess it goes to last unread by default?
  • As long as you've already visited the last page of a thread, then following the thread's link will take you to the new post(s) automatically. Once you've read those, you end up at the last comment by default.
  • Yeah. The 'mark all as read' plugin only works until someone posts things in a thread, then it reverts to whatever read status it was when you last looked at it. I'd like a better one, but if I can't find it at least these problems will subside as people start clicking through the threads they've already read.
  • Where there some threads that didn't carry over? I can't find the goku mighnight eye challenge thread.
  • So, the geeknights forum made super lazy, do we have those buttons that allow to hyperlink or to post a video here just by clicking at them or do we have to do it the old fashion way?
  • If it's youtube just post the link. It figures out how to emb it.
  • do we have to do it the old fashion way?

Our minds and fingers need to exercise sometime.
  • Does anyone else's mobile version look fucked?
  • Yes. Mine is mangled somethin' awful.
  • I have no idear what caused it, but it started doing two column mode all of a sudden.
  • Very strange. While I prefer the other mobile version, that is immaterial; the two-column display shows up great in horizontal view on the telephone, but it looks like an ocelot's ass when viewed vertically.
  • I fixed it. I somehow overwrote its css this morning.
  • Jon Brescia worked tirelessly through the night, and now we have avatars next to the threads in the main page, and I think it looks pretty neat (and the regular and mobile themes are closer together in looks).
  • Thanks for the recognition! I appreciate it. It probably wouldn't have taken me three hours to figure this out if I actually knew PHP to any substantial degree. Thank god editing other people's code is way easier than writing your own, presuming it's well formed code of course.
  • Can you change so it's the avatar of the most recent poster?
  • Actually, I believe I can. Dave, if you see merit in that switch, let me know; it's your forum!
  • I guess that's up to the forum to decide.
  • I tried the quick fix for it that I had in mind, and it didn't quite work, so I'll have to investigate how to rig such a thing. Presuming I can make it happen, if people want it, fine; if not, it's good exercise for my lazy ol' brain. I'll let you know if I get it/if I give up in a frustrated rage.
  • A group I belong to was looking into using Vanilla, but it looks like it's not actually available for download.
Out of curiousity, how did you get access to it - do you know them or just email and ask?

    Thanks!
  • That's funny... I had been looking at this: http://www.vanillacms.com/download

    Same company? Different company?
  • They don't link to one another, and one is open-source while the other is (was?) in closed development, and they have different contact information (not conflicting, just different). So probably not the same. Further: CMS page's last update was in 2009; forum had a new release in March of this year.

Edit: My mistake. Still, no idea.
  • I was fooled, thanks for helping me clear that up!
  • Nifty, I like vanilla. Another podcast I listen to used to have a vanilla forum. They had a problem with the database getting too big or something.

  • I would really like to have the ability to ignore a user once again like we could on the old forum. Any chance of that feature being restored?
  • Probably not. I'm not aware of a plugin for it, but I'll look.
  • Well, thanks for trying!
  • You could...just not read their posts...?
  • That's easier when you don't have a certain someone always posts nasty shit after almost everything you say.
  • You can just say my name lol, it's not even a secret.
  • "Ignore user" is a stupid option for forums. Either disagree with a person openly, stop caring about their opinion. If they're breaking the rules, they'll get banned. I don't understand wanting every forum you go visit to be a censored garden echo chamber version of the forum tailored to you. The fact that people here reply to each other is why I come here-- other comics forums I've been to, people barely skim the thread, post their own opinion at the bottom, everyone talking, no one listening. Is it because they just want to be heard, or because they've come to ignore all the people they dislike/disagree with their nerd rants? I don't know, but it's boring as hell.
  • Besides, berating DG for posting quasi-porn is part of the fun!
  • I wouldn't ignore you <3
  • I don't want to berate him, I want him to leave me alone.
  • After several years of dealing with Nick's dickery, I don't even have the ability to differentiate it from normal conversation anymore. Just point out how terrible all of his jokes are.
  • To be fair there's no difference with knin. I'm pretty consistent there.
  • Can you increase the amount of time you can stay logged in? (forever)
  • I've never had a problem with staying loggedi n.
  • Gonna try to update the forum. HOPE IT DON'T BLOW UP.
  • It has been nice knowing everyone.
