So this is from Image's totally classy Ninja Turtles series:
The more I hear about that series, the more glad I become that I never read it.
I read some of it. It totally thought it was a sendup of superhero comics. It was like if The Tick, instead of being written by Ben Edlund, was written by the sort of writer who worked at Image in the 90s.
Yeah, no. I read the entire Image series last weekend. It was totally not a sendup of anything. The art is atrocious throughout and the writing is the typical Image "omgz hardcore" writing.
The following things happen: Raphael gets half his face burned off by a cyborg's laser. He wears Casey Jones' mask for a while, then an eyepatch, then becomes Shredder. Donatello gets shot and then thrown out of a helicoptor. He splatters on the ground and then the cyborg he just murdered absorbs what's left of his body so Donatello becomes a guntoting cyborg. Like Cable. Later, Leonardo gets his hand bitten off by a komodo dragon. Donatello makes him a cyborg hand, but he's scared of living metal, so he settles for a hook.
Look, mutilating a character is not the same thing as character development, but it sure is HARDCORE lolz. There is no joke, ever, except that '90s comics were terrible. I mean, I guess there are really jokes, like when a Wolverine-looking guy called The Weasel shows up for one panel only to have a ninja chick chop off his head. There's a joke. I guess. Hilarious.
