Gundam Unicorn
  • God i love robot shows. And whats better than Giant robots and Unicorns?

So i got the Blu ray disk from j-list. And i am amazed at the amount of detail that went into the OVA(oav?).

Not dubbed yet, but i'm sure you could find a torrent or something for it somewhere.

Anyone else seen the show? Any comments on the utterly huge gap between episodes? 6 months between each episode and a total of 8 episodes. So thats 4 years? :x

Don't you think the horn on the gundam is a bit much? Compensating?

Japanese penis so smarr. American penis ah so biig.
  • I hope you got the import of episode 2 or 3 because the R1 episode 1 blu ray was released a couple months ago
  • Im wondering if it was originally "Unicron" than Unicorn, then we could get some Transformers action in a gundam anime.

Which is, a robot-mech fanfics wetter dream past Super Robot Wars series.
  • As someone who loves the lore and style of UC, but hates Tomino's directing style, I really dug Unicorns first episode. It's the kinda show I'd recommend to any fan of Sci-Fi, which is more than I can say for most mecha.

Also it has been dubbed, at least on the american blu-ray. Pretty good dub too.

Gundam Unicorn is being released two episodes a year, just like every other Gundam OAV, with the exception of Gundam 0080 (which somehow also managed to be the best Gundam OAV)

The Unicorn name actually makes a lot of in the context of UC... Honest...
  • I totally forgot this show existed. As far as I knew the last gundam was 00 which I never finished from lack of interest.
  • Why did you import the Blu-ray? I thought it was a simultaneous release in the US and Japan?
  • It is a simultaneous release with the same media since the US & Japan are in the BluRay region. About the only differences between the US & Japanese release are the packaging and maybe physical pack-ins. Japan gets a nice slipcover and maybe a booklet.

    I don't think I like you.
  • They're releasing it one the PSN 2 weeks before the physical release. The price of it still upsets me and I don't really like to buy things unless I have to, so I'll just rent it off there. As long as they don't charge like 20 or 15 bucks for it.

I'm sorry i meant that the dub is horrible. I bought the dvd for the case, and got a free action figure with it. The US release was not worth buying.
  • Cool show; glad to see Gundam return to the UC. Looking forward to episode 2, and hoping that

    *Spoiler?*
    Spoiler:
The Char Aznable clone aspect of the storyline doesn't come off as seeming corny or lame.

Id gladly pay 20 dollars to rent it, if its in Blu Ray, and i can somehow rip it off my ps3 hard drive and save it =D
  • I'm finding the consistency between me reading whatever you post and me doing a facepalm while sighing, to be quite astounding.

The Bandai store is selling Vol 2 for 20 dollars off with free shipping it seems, if anyone is interested in getting it.

D= I payed 50 bucks for the first "volume". 20 bucks seems much more reasonable.
But i really want the Original Japanese case :D
  • It's out on the PSN for 5.99 and it is very, very awesome

The direction was great with not a single moment wasted in terms of advancing the plot. I was 25 minutes into the OVA and felt like I had watched an hour of it. The utility from this 2nd episode is one of the highest amounts I've experienced in recent memory. The only bad part is that it ends and you'll have the knowledge that the 3rd episode doesn't come out until March at the earliest. With such a strong first two episodes, Unicorn is shaping up to be one of the best Gundam series of all time.

One should re-watch the first OVA if you haven't seen it in a while because I had forgotten where and what Laplace's Box was along with a few other details
  • I'm waiting for the BluRay to ship. I will, though, rewatch the first OVA in the meantime.
  • Loved it. The music and action continues to be amazing, but this episode really shone in it's quieter moments. The hostage negotiation was approprietely tense, and seeing
    Spoiler:
    Riddher interrogating Mineva
was great. I also really like how FF is being written, I don't agree with his methods but you can hear the conviction in his words, he really feels he's doing the right thing as long as he gives the Spacenoids suffrage. I also like that this show goes into the more subtler elements of the Universal Century, like religion and the rights of the spacenoids, rather than just focusing on mobile suits exploding.

Next episode seems to be when shit is really going to get real, and the wait won't be as long as either. Yay.
  • Probably the best hour of anime i have watched ever.
  • New one is out on the Zune Marketplace. I didn't see it on the PSN when I was looking for it this mourning, it might be up by now. Again, one needs to re-watch volume 2 before watching the third volume.

Overall it's probably the weakest of the three volumes, but that's not me saying it's bad in anyway. There's some ZZ canon thrown in that I didn't fully understand and that will make me try to get back into watching that series.
  • Still not on PSN ;-;

    I am very bummed.
  • Yeah, this was the weakest lot. They were clearly trying to cram way too much material an hour (even though they left out the entire Gael assassination subplot) and some of the exposition was pretty wooden. Still, the last 30 or so minutes were pretty amazing.

The next episode is the one I've most been looking forward,
    Spoiler:
what with the Islamic militants taking over a zeonic mobile armour and attacking Dakar.
  • Riddhe, you going crazy.

Kinda surprised they'll still be on earth in this episode.
  • They brought back Kai, nice!
