Giant Bomb & Waypoint

edited August 16 in Art and Projects
Because I love this show, Brad Shoemaker's voice makes me all a-flutter, and I figured other folks listened to it on here too,and might wanna discuss. If not...eh...

Everytime I start getting my stuff together to get my podcast off the ground, I get nervous because I'm afraid I'll sound like Leigh Alexander...

  • Jeff likes to talk about points a lot especially in older episodes, 'nough said.
  • Apparently his full name is Bradley H. Shoemaker THE THIRD.
  • Oh My God. Clearly he must record in a top hat and monacle. :saucy:

I actually liked the discussion they had in this last episode, talking about iPad vs. DS. I hate to say it, but I kinda agree with the British dude. And its not just because of his accent.
  • When did billy bob thornton join this podcast? I thought he was sticking to his music career.
  • Also it's almost impossible to be as annoying as Leigh Alexander. That woman should never be on a podcast ever.
  • The most annoying part of her on this podcast was her apologizing for 40 minutes about being annoying on a different podcast.

I've never really liked her writing, but it in no way prepared me for what I listened to on that. She just steamrolled everything, and acted like the standard drunk person on a podcast. Somehow, her presence made the English guy from Mythic almost tolerable.
  • I wasn't aware that he was supposed to be intolerable, but I am a noob to all these people. I found him quite charming.

I absolutely hated when she came on and apologized for what she did last time, completely ignoring the fact that she was doing it again. The only thing she didn't do was say something about Nazi suits, I guess. I went on her blog before I listened to the podcast, cuz I was excited about hearing a chick. She wrote some pieces that irritated me, but I was willing to give it a shot...did not work out...

Do all New Yorkers talk like that? I mean constantly interrupt you by screaming, and then ask you a question, that they then interrupt the answer to by screaming another question?

She's not annoying cuz she's a chick, she's annoying because she's an obnoxious bitch.
  • You could say this happens because I'm a good looking young woman, and I should "take it as a compliment." It's not a compliment, and it has little to do with how I look, as it happens to a lot of girls I know.
  • How did you know? How did you know that was exactly the thing that irritated me?

ANYWHO, back to E3. This was the only coverage I followed, since I was actually interested this year...nobody talked about the Michael Jackson game, though.
  • Why does that quote irritate you?
  • That article is among the few reasonable ones she's ever written.

That's why I'm confused. I found that article entirely reasonable.
  • I'm looking at it as a female who lives in a densely populated Urban area. Same shit that happens in New York happens in Chicago, and females get hit on every day by every one. Do we have the right to walk down the street in something cute and not be harrassed? Absolutely. But the reality of it is, most men on the street are dicks, and they'll do it just because they can. Is it horrible enough for someone to say that they wish they could disfigure themselves in order for it to not happen? I mean, damn, really?

Living in a densely populated Urban area, you know there are rules to follow. Always use the buddy system, always know your surroundings, carry mace and any other weapon that you can conceal about your person, and do not engage. If you don't feel like smiling, don't fucking smile. If the guy is in your face, move away from him very pointedly. If he persists, act like a huge bitch. Or possibly act crazy. Both work pretty well. People act like they have to be polite to everybody all the fucking time.

It just smacked of 'wah, wah, wah' to me. And the game that she was talking about looks hilarious. Why should she apologize for liking it? If she can be so balls out, and scream BOSTON SUCKS like an asshole all through somebody's podcast, why can't she man up to the assholes bothering her, and say definitively that she likes a game without offering a simpering explanation as to why?
  • It seems perfectly reasonable to me that a woman would want to walk down a street without being verbally harassed.

Obviously this person was speaking in hyperbolic terms. With that said, there are a lot of hang ups about sexuality in our culture, and it seems like it produces a lot of people with sexual baggage. If someone is constantly poked and prodded in a way that exacerbates the weight of that baggage, I can imagine them considering feeling helpless enough to harm themselves to get away from it. I don't know of anyone who has done that specifically, but there are tons of people who do crazy self-destructive things to try to cope with life.
  • I mean yeah, I get that her friend was exageratting to make a point, and I'm not saying it's unreasonable to not want to be harrassed. I'm saying its one of those things that happens, that sucks, and thats part of living in a big city. What bothers me the most about the whole thing was that she felt the need to disclose all of this just to make a point about some weird game where women kill men who hit on them.

Why apologize for it? She could have said 'This shit happens to me all the time, and there are days when I seriously wish I could take a pipe to the back of somebody's head. Thats where this game comes in.' Instead she goes to great lengths to describe the awful peril she faces on a daily basis, which is why she feels justified in thinking this game is funny, even though its terrible.
  • I got the feeling that the article (and her support of this game) was largely her venting about this particular aspect of urban living of which she was least fond. I don't think she was apologizing for liking the game - in fact, I don't think she liked the game very much at all. She even calls it "crude and terrible." What she does express is worry about readers not taking her concerns seriously.
I just know that there are plenty of you reading this thinking that these male neighbors of mine are "just going about it the wrong way," and that there's a "nice way" to bother a woman walking alone or out shopping.
    ...
No, wait, here's the worst. The worst is that there are entire demographics of people out there who would dismiss my complaints -- oh, poor you, you get attention because people think you're pretty, they say.
  • AGAIN, not dismissing her complaints as being invalid, and making it seem like 'Oh poor pretty girl, burdened with being pretty'. I'm saying it comes with the territory. You live in New York, you live in LA, you live in Chicago, you deal with those cities. I'd like to live in a place where people don't piss all over the trains, but I know that if you live where I do, that shit happens.

I read it as apologetic, if you read it in a different way then hey.

Pretty much my thoughts on the matter, that if we're dealing with a "dense urban" phenomenon, then a multitude of opportunities to avoid that phenomenon exist, and that a rough cost-benefit analysis should yield a reasonable decision as to staying/going.
  • I like Mortal Kombat. I am excited for the new game.

I am also mildly interested in Kinect, even though I own a breadmaker (Wii).

  • Aww...I *heart* Hagrid.

Also, this last Bombcast was phenmonal, mainly because of the very end, with Jeff reading the game descriptions. I literally LOL'd.
  • Late to the party but, the E3 day 2 episode is one of my favorite episode of the Bombcast ever. Johnny V is great and I wish he was on more.
  • A fourth evil Batman?!

There's a chick in persona 4 with a bob cut and biker shorts that can follow up a critical or weakness with an attack that 1HKO's a vulnerable enemy like a tank shadow. She does this by spin kicking the tank and launching it into the stratosphere.
  • Oh. <img class=" title="In Love" /> Don't think I got that far in the Endurance Run for that.
  • She wears a jacket with pins on it and really likes steak.
  • so what your saying is that she is the best woman ever
  • 16:40. That man has lost his mind and I love him all the more for it.

15 minutes of Vinny fucking around with a green suit on the green screen made that awesome.
