Halo getting the Animatrix treatment
  • The Halo anime is also getting production oversight from renowned Appleseed director Shinji Aramaki, who has a broad slate of credits in mecha anime. He'll also direct his own individual short for the project, based on the history of the Spartan warrior class.

This topic existed in a state of superposition before eventually collapsing into the Anime forum.
  • A character who is famous for being nothing but a suit of mecha-armor, and a director whose forte is suits of mecha-armor. This is truly a match made in heaven.
  • Oshii has joined on.

We'll get a segment of awesome Chief action and Cortana will debate about the existance of her soul and spout shinto quotes.
  • I have never played Halo but the fact that Oshii will be part of it, that got my interest
  • ZZZZzzzzzzz... next.
  • Basset hounds in Spartan armor..... woo hoo!
  • Don't forget that we'll somehow have a way for Master Chief to have glowy red eyes even though his face is a featureless blank mirror.

And Cortana will have a red jacket for no apparent reason.

    ****

Although we may finally get that Chief-Cortana sex scene that Halo fans have fantasized about right from the get-go. Indeed, Aramaki could just take the Megazone 23 scene and paint the girl blue.

    Yea, pretty much
  • We already have enough machinima out there... the aelinz!
  • How exactly are they going to make a faceless, shallow character like Master Chief into someone interesting enough to carry a film? I think this anime is going to be as good as the Halo games, generic shite.

From the looks of the promo trailer it doesn't look like Master Cheif will be getting all of the screen time, but that still doesn't mean that this is going to be good. If anything it might barely be better than the Wolverine anime that's coming out, but that's not saying much.

It's not like I am trying to condemn them right away, it's just that going by the trailers neither of them look particularly promising, at least that's how they seem to me. Will I still watch them? Most likely, and if they end up being awesome then I will just have to eat my words, if they suck then at least I wasn't surprised.

My view on the Wolverine anime is that I'm kind of glad they're trying something new. They've done practically EVERYTHING with the character already. If they tried to do something too traditional, I don't think there'd be enough there to separate it from the rest of the pack, like Hulk vs. or Wolverine and the X-Men. And with Warren Ellis working on what is fundamentally a brand new incarnation of Wolverine, I think the gloves will come off. And Ellis is best when the gloves are off.

My biggest fear is that they may be putting the cart before the horse. As with Iron Man, they are specifically trying to incorporate conventions (some would say cliches) of the medium in order to make it "feel" like anime. The last time Marvel tried to do that, we got the Mangaverse.
  • 4 C is on it. I will give it the benefit of the doubt.
