  • It's out. I hear it can be played. Anyway I own it and I haven't popped it in yet, but I'm really liking the art. Gonna listen to the soundtrack later.
  • I wish I had time. This is too long for me at the moment.
  • I wouldn't bother listening to the soundtrack. If it's anything like Persona 3, you'll be hearing all four songs on it an whole bunch real soon.
  • That's the point -- the new OST is supposed to be rad.
  • OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YEA

    BANABABABANABABA

    BABY BABY

    DANADADADANADADA

    OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YEAH

    BANABABABANABABA

    BABY BABY
  • The truth is that I really don't have any problem with hearing the same song for hours and hours on end. For the most part, I can ignore it. You put vocals in the song, though, IE Sonic CD, Persona 4, Devil May Cry 4, and I want to see if I can fit a tennis ball into my ears. The "ooooooooo yeah!" song would be so much better without the vocals, and don't even get me started on the raps. All three (or was it two?) of them.
  • Well I'm liking the game so far, still have to get used to weather cycles rather than moon cycles, and party control is a life saver in some battles. The soundtrack doesn't really have that many vocal songs the majority is instrumental and/or techno, which is fine by me. The instrumental tracks are always the best ones anyway.
  • This game is almost exactly like Persona 3. I'm cool with that.
  • Yeah, I spent most of today playing this game, and I can't say enough good things.

If you liked 3 you'll like this one, but enough things are different that you shouldn't just play 3 again.
  • Argh, i need to finally finish 3 or I can't justify adding this to my pile of unplayed games. Hopefully the success of Persona 3 means this isn't getting a miniscule Atlus print run and I'll be able to find it later.
  • I played and beat 3, but I haven't played FES yet. I started playing Persona 4 this weekend and I'm really digging it so far. The amount of time this game is going to eat up is a bit scary for me tho.... I'm still working on Gears 2, Left 4 Dead, and Tales of Vesperia..... It feels like my PS2 is that ex-girlfriend that I can't get out of my system. She knows what I need.......
  • I forgot that the bosses in this game are ridiculous until you get some good personas.
  • [quote="Railith"]I forgot that the bosses in this game are ridiculous until you get some good personas.

Amen to this. I also have the bad habit of forgetting that PlLvl =/= Persona Level for your Main Character.
"I'm level [high number], this fight will be easy! ... Crap, how did I die? Oh wait, my best persona is level [low number], arse."

I do this too many times to mention, and enough that I've become obsessively aware of this fact.
  • Is there a talking dog/ robot in this game?

I am looking forward to getting it, regardless.

There's a talking Teddy bear that lives in the Demon Channel of the TV.

    Is that close?

Does he spout catchy phrases like "When you fall, get right back up!"?
    If so, then yes.
  • Let us commence WITH AN ALL OUT ATTACK! (I love the way she emphasizes it)

    FATAL STRIKE!

No, but he makes terrible bear related puns.

    They're un-bear-able.
  • God! The strip club dungeon is raping me sooooo hard! I forgot how brutal this game is. I'm glad that they let you control your party members though, it makes the game a bit more manageable, that and the guard option.
  • Strip Club dungeon?!?

And I thought the bathhouse one was bad.

Crap, I need to put some time in this game.
  • Yes the strip club dungeon comes with everything, including annoying techno music.
  • Strip club dungeon is not at sexual as the bathhouse dungeon.
  • Is that track the one with the bumpin' bass?
  • [quote="Digitalguardian"]Is that track the one with the bumpin' bass?

Yes, but after grinding in there for a bit it gets a little tiresome.
  • There is no shortage of creepy babies in Persona 4.
  • They even went as far as to make the
    Spoiler:
stripper boss made of goo so that she makes squishing noises as the grinds the pole.
    :what:

I'm loving this game so far.
  • That's worse than the first major shadow in P3
    Spoiler:
that's in missionary with BJ on her tits.
  • So does anyone think that it's kind of cute how they try to get all meta on you with the
    Spoiler:
    Video Game themed dungeon?

I dig the song in that dungeon though. The game is pretty fun. Also it's pretty odd to see
    Spoiler:
    Teddie's human form.

At least when he's like that the terrible puns stop.....for now.
  • [quote="MDCFLA#7"]At least when he's like that the terrible puns stop.....for now.
Let's just say the puns BEARly stop.
  • Beat the game the other day. This is easily my favorite game of 2008, all things considered. Though I am a sucker for JRPGs, so whatever.

Overall I'd say this game curbstomps Persona 3 (especially where the soundtrack is concerned).
  • Bought this the other day. As usual the art (persona designs) is what draws me to the SMT series. Last time I attempted an SMT game was Digital Devil Saga and I got bored of that pretty quick. This game looks to have fun characters and an interesting story so I'm not worried about that happening again.

I guess it's normal for the SMT series, but this game can kick your ass if you make one mistake. I didn't really realize you weren't really supposed to tackle the dungeon in one go and I lost a lot of progress. I beat the first dungeon 3 days before the time limit.

I don't really understand how you can have your personas learn skills from other personas. Is that the same thing as fusing them?

Persona designs are awesome. Here's my favorites from the second game.

    Yes.
  • Party control made this game much easier than 3, thank God.
  • I'm finally going to buy another PS2 tomorrow and Persona 4. Do you need to have played Persona 3 to play Persona 4? Because I don't want to go into a game that expects you to have played Persona 3, 2 and 1 (as far as story is concerned).
  • they are independent games :)
  • I finally got around to getting a PS2 along with this. I really really like this game it's one of the only recent JRPGs that can hold my attention. Also is it just me or are there a lot of really dirty innuendos in this game?
  • sometimes they just blatantly say it, like that Kou guy for one.
  • This game is way too absorbing. I've done nothing but sit in front of my tv and play it for the past 2 days.
  • Even though I know I would enjoy this game, I just don't feel like getting into a new RPG these days.
  • I'm almost done with Persona 4 (I'm in December) so I went out and bought Persona 3 FES and FFXII today. I was really supprised to see who was behind everything, this game is great stuff. I might just push back P3FES and FFXII to play New Game +.

EDIT: Just beat it and got the True Ending. 72 h 55m was my time. Man, this game was good shit.
  • FFXII... that game is kind of hit or miss, you either like it or you don't, there is no middle ground. I got burned out on that game pretty fast, for me at least, which is like 20 hours
  • Man, Persona 3 is harder to get into. That is probably due to me not liking the characters as much as I started off liking the ones in 4. Also, so far the game isn't really story driven. I hope that changes.
  • WTF why would you just finish at 70+ hour game and try to jump into an equally long game. That is your real problem, crazy bastard.
  • Persona 3 doesn't really get into gear until yakushima.
  • [quote="PaniPoniDoom"]WTF why would you just finish at 70+ hour game and try to jump into an equally long game. That is your real problem, crazy bastard.
Well I'm not gonna dispute that I'm a crazy bastard. The reason is that there is nothing else to do. Sure I could be doing homework, but that's no fun. I should really get my X360 fixed...

EDIT: Damn, Persona 3 is a hell of a lot more frustrating than Persona 4. This is probably due to me not having direct control over my teammates.
  • well... 3 does come prior to 4...
  • [quote="PaniPoniDoom"]WTF why would you just finish at 70+ hour game and try to jump into an equally long game. That is your real problem, crazy bastard.
I used to do that all the time. For example, when I finished my first playthrough of FFXII (around the 75 hour mark) I almost immediately started a new game using a power-leveling guide. Despite being more time efficient than my first game, it still took about 80 hours to get to lvl 99 and kill most of the Marks, and I haven't even done everything there is to do yet. I'll eventually go back to it. Maybe.

Come to think of it, that was also the time I listened to both the entire Fast Karate and some of the AWO backlog, like, two or three times. Now that my college classes have actually gotten challenging, I don't have the time to invest in that sort of game unless it's REALLY special. Like Persona 4. Man, Chie's Galactic Punt was so awesome.
  • [quote="BrokenMagnum"]well... 3 does come prior to 4...
Well party control isn't new to the rpg genre or anything. Its just that they do stupid things sometimes. Ok, I have just been granted Mitsuru as a party member. What should my team be? Or should I level them all equally?
  • It's much more worth your time to level up your party members equally in P3 than it is in P4. In P3 I found myself switching parties fairly regularly for tactical purposes, whereas in P4 I would just stick to one party and only switch out characters if I wanted to try something different.
