Man. The worst I've had to deal with on the family-member front lately is my aunt telling me that she was "so sorry to hear" that I buy into that whole "global warming" scam. (This came about after she linked to an article whose premise basically amounted to "peak oil isn't a problem because the Earth generates oil for us out of the goodness of its heart," and I tried to factcheck it a bit.)

Oh, goodness. Uh, here's the actual article she linked. http://www.americanthinker.com/2012/03/what_if_oil_and_natural_gas_are_renewable_resources.html The short version is that the author of this article thinks oil may be the result of geological processes rather than the aggregate biomass of former living creatures, because of... reasons. A quick search on "abiogenic oil" is enough to find plenty of information on this discredited and out of date theory.
