[quote="RobotBastard"]These, on the other hand, look pretty good. If I were an entrepeneur, I might well try to sell these here under the "Robotech" label.

But they are not available They'll be available next month.
This guy's got kneecaps from hell. Seriously, what is this Japanese mecha-designer obsession with gigantic kneepads? The mechs in "Nadesico" were the same way.
We need something to fight back this alien menace.
We need...tiny little Valkyries!
Two boxes of "Chara-Works Macross Valkyrie Collection" arrived at my house from HLJ today, and I now operate the largest smallest space fleet in my immediate neighborhood.
At $45 a box for ten Valks per box, this is a pretty good deal. (I sold some old 40K stuff on eBay to fund my military expansion.) Each "series" has seven total types of Valkyrie, and they're 'randomly' packed in the box (although I'm pretty sure that the packaging takes care to include one of each type.) These are "gashopon" kits, meant as prizes for the "crane games"; manufacturers make all kinds of small toys and put them in identically-sized boxes which all have similar markings. You get the prize from the crane game, but you never know exactly what you've gotten until you open it.
These particular items are nominally 1/144 scale, about two inches long. They're actually more like tiny model kits than toys; the landing gear parts come on little runners and you have to snip them off with a sharp blade, and instead of stickers they have waterslide transfers. These are definitely for display; I wouldn't use them to fly around the room and dogfight my niece. (That's what Hot Wings are for.)
They go together very nicely. The detail looks good for the scale (it's a bit overstated, but since these are so small you need to emphasize it for it to be visible.) The model includes a flying stand, so you can pose your Valkyrie off the ground.
So, on to the assortment (pictures forthcoming.) I got at least one of each item.
By paint type, I got: 2 Hikaru VF-1A DYRL Version (white with red/black striping) 1 Kakizaki VF-1A DYRL (white with green/black striping) 2 Standard VF-1A TV Version (brown with white trim) 2 Angel Birds VF-1A (1st episode of TV, red-white-blue demo team) 1 Disguised VF-1A (VF-1A in a paint scheme that's meant to look like Max dressed up as a Zentradei) 2 Max Custom VF-1J (blue with white striping) 1 Milia Custom VF-1J (red with white striping--note that Milia gets missiles and Max doesn't!) 1 Hikaru VF-1J (white with red striping) 1 Hikaru VF-1A Super (white with red/black striping, missile pods) 1 Roy VF-1S Super (white with yellow/black striping, missile pods) 2 Roy VF-1S Strike (missile and laser pods) 1 Hikaru VF-1S Strike (white/red/black, missile and laser pods) 1 VT-1 Super Ostrich (orange/white two-seater from DYRL) 2 VF-1S Strike Minmay Guard (sort of the "Import Tuner edition" of a VF-1S, this is pink and purple and yellow and has all kinds of body graphics)
Fear not, cute girl figures! The Mighty Macross Fleet is here to save you! Of course I've been drinking! That doeshn't mather, you can schtill fight when yer drunk!

PS putting this together drove my little cat CRAZY. He kept trying to pick up the bits and run away with them.

No you can't, that is why he got killed http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/mylene239/robotech_macross_roy_fokker.gif
Are you sure this isn't a Shirow character design? It looks exactly like something he'd do, particularly the repaint. (He's got a thing for dark meat.)
I just thought it was funny how the advertising now has all these "beauty shots" of the Valkyries in cool poses, like they were Revoltech or something. What's not visible is the 30 yards of monofilament holding them in position...
Well, I think it's great as a toy for eight-year-olds, who just want something that they can "fly" around the room without having it jettison all its limbs. And let's not forget that, ultimately, that's what these toys are supposed to be about.
These toys are not designed for kids anymore. They're designed for people who are above 18 at least. Made for the people who sweat and grunted over trying to build the old Imai variable kit or attempting to kit bash something out of a Hasegawa model. They're for all those people who say a resin kit or a conversion kit that was five hundred dollars for a few dozen pieces that might turn your old airplane model into a VF-1. People who looked at all of the old toys and saw their clicky arms only capable of making hurray and wanted more.
