I am editing a paper for the writing department's student magazine. It's a pretty cool program where the best papers (as selected by a panel of professors) are chosen and the students whose papers win get monies. I like monies. (it's not a lot - but making monies off writing is pretty dope)
This paper is pretty fun and I am pretty irreverent at many points in here (which takes up a fairly large chunk of my editing time).
Got accepted to OSU to finish my undergrad. Still not sure if I want to stay there for grad school or go somewhere out of state, but I'm excited about starting up at OSU this fall.
I've decided to learn to write left handed, and it is going surprisingly well. I'm cross-dominant (semi ambidextrous), and other then writing, I can more or less use either hand just as well for most things.
Got my picture taken with my friend on the Enterprise D bridge. I stood in tactical (because Worf is awesome) and my friend in the captains chair. Lots of cool things there including tons of props and costumes from all the series, a huge wall that showed the timeline of everything, and scripts from choice episodes that me and my friend decided to read from for fun.
So I ordered the Mel Brooks Collection and the Alien Anthology on Blu Ray from Best Buy for $40 a pop last weekend. When they came in Thursday, I had received the first two seasons of House instead. I ended up going to a Best Buy to try and make a return, but they said because of an inventory issue I wouldn't be able to make the exchange. I decided to give it a crack at another Best Buy and there was no real issue with the return again. Best Buy had lowered my expectations so low that having decent customer service was shocking.
Best Buy had a one day sale where a game that normally costs 60 dollars new was being sold for 10 dollars online. When I went to get it they wanted me to show them the card that I used to pay for the game. However, I used Paypal's Smart Connect which is basically line of credit they extend to you to buy things using Paypal. The concept of this was completely lost on the guy attending me and he could not grasp that I had no physical card for that account. Eventually he had to get a manager to come and look up a more detailed account of the transaction and after about 15 minutes I was able to walk away with my game. Added to the time that I originally had to wait for the guy to find the game, it was a 30 minute ordeal on what should have been a quick 4 minute trip.
I'm at a casino resort for the next two days with a bottle of prescribed pain killers. Next week I'll be flying out to Ohio for a five day gaming convention. The end of May is turning out to be fantastic.
So Best Buy sent me an extra copy of the Mel Brooks Collection and Alien Anthology I ordered. So either they caught the mistake on their end or they randomly shipped me the first two seasons of House. Pretty neat X-mas presents I just picked up for free.
I have no direct association with it (other than finding out one of my college friends works for SpaceX), but I feel awesome just knowing that Dragon is currently docked with the ISS! Maybe this belongs in the Science thread, I don't care.
I just came back from mini-vacation #1. I was supposed to come back on Wednesday, but did particularly well at the casino, so I was able to stay an extra two days. Mini-vacation #2 starts next week. Jon, I'll be flying into Columbus on Wednesday, so I'll shoot you an email this weekend.

wait is that Ohio State University? or Oklahoma State University?
I held my first anime panel today. I felt like it went fairly well, but if I do it again I know what I can do to make it better. Also made it home safe even though there was a tropical storm off the coast that would choose to rain down pretty heavy every once in a while. I’m not sure if the fact that the tropical storm was named Beryl and that Terri Hawkes voice of Sailor Moon was guest of honor at the con is some form of irony.
Managed to fall down my stairs today while carrying a poop-filled cat litter box. Somehow, the box landed in such a way as to balance perfectly and not spill, so despite fucking my back and arm up, I'm super thankful.
21 out of 25 and 17 out of 18 kids in my Algebra 1 standard class passed the first go around of the high stakes end of course exam. If they didn't pass, they'd need to retake Algebra I. My school had a 72% pass rate (highest in the county for high school) and the state of Florida had a 48% pass rate for 9th graders. Note that most advanced kids take Algebra 1 in the 7th or 8th grade. I feel pretty awesome because I've got the highest pass rate in the county for standard classes.
