[quote="Dreg"]Behold, for I have spoiled the Greatest Story Ever Told!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v519/Dreg/biblespoiler.jpg Dammit dreg I was only to exodus way to ruin it.... well crap I guess I will wait till the movie comes out.
Just finished it one hour ago. Since than I have been sitting motionlessly in my chair paying attention to absolutely nothing with the television off and the lights dimly lit.
Bass kat. I am so sorry those assholes did that. Luckily I unsubscribed from both Anime Pulse and The Otaku.com podcast three weeks ago.
I recieved the book through UPS on Saturday. My brother was here to sign for it therefore I could start reading as soon as I returned from work. Two of my co-workers started reading it during their lunch break and I grew restless.
After finishing the 700 page book in about two days......I think I'm going to top the night off by killing some noobs in Half-Life 2: Deathmatch.
I hate everyone who can read faster than me, and I hate all obligations that force me to do things like make lunches and get clothes ready for the next day so I can't spend every waking moment of my life on this BOOK!
Dex is almost caught up with me on his SECOND go 'round, my best friend, who got her book on f*cking Sunday is finished, and I'm on chapter 13...

I'm feeling dumber by the second...
You'll get there Bass Kat Just relax. This isn't a race. Just stay off the internet until your done.
I know it's not a race, but it's making me feel kinda inadequate, seeing as how, when it comes to me and Dex, I've always been the brains of the operation...
And sadly, the only way I could finish in a day would be if I didn't go to work, which is where I am currently.
I know what you mean about other people finishing so fast. I was talking to a friend about dinner arrangements, and she invited someone else who I knew was a big Potter fan. I said something like "Oh, I better finish this book tonight." Not a moment later does the other person pop up on AIM and tell me she's already read the book twice, and is contemplating a third go through.
she orphaned a little boy but didn't make it near as dramatic as she should/could have. The only death that "got to me" was that of Dobby, and that's only because he's such an innocent character doing no more than his best to help.
I felt the biggest fault of this movie was that half of it felt like them wandering the countryside with jack shit to do. They had no clues to go off of and just wandered aimlessly until the next deus ex machina came up and bit them on the ass. Other than nothing bad happening to anyone mattering it was entertaining and exactly what I expected. Which in itself is slightly disappointing. Still, I was satisfied.
I've heard a number of complaints about the epilogue but I liked it if only because it makes the fans shut the fuck up about Voldermort still being alive. She had to show people Dumbledore's corpse before they'd shut up.
I was able to get through most of the spoilers unphased. I read off of Something Awful that
Spoiler:
Ron and Snape
die as someone had their avatar changed to that. Thankfully, one of those deaths was obvious and the other was outright false. I wonder if, no, when EA is putting out a Harry Potter MMO.
Also JKR has already said she's doing an Encyclopedia of Harry Potter stuff.
Yeah, it's called 'Hogwarts, A History', like the cute little text book in the story. I scrolled down the second I saw the black bars...I'm on Chapter 20...goddamn my slow reading!
I was really, REALLY hoping they weren't gonna toss that "love" thing around. I'm sorry, but no matter how bad-ass you can attempt to make a character, how powerful, how moody, emo, or however many capslocks you decide to use, the SECOND he even MENTIONS the word 'love' in any other way than 'I would love nothing more than to wipe my ass on your forehead, right now', than he's pretty much a wuss.
The love thing came across okay. It wasn't like the scream of a finishing move, and they talked about how it was a little more complex and that because Voldy didn't have it he rejected to realize a few things.
A musical tribute to Book 7's first beloved casualty:
SPOILERZOMG!!
(probably gonna have to cut and paste, since the file name gave away the spoiler, and if I spoilerize a link, the blue font shows up against the black.)
[quote="blank"]Now that it's all over with, I must say the thing that annoyed me the most about Harry Potter was that his dad was a super dick.
They should've gotten that bespectacled dude from Sean of the Dead to play him in the movies. Not only does he look just like an aged Ratcliffe, his character matched the elder Potter dickery for dickery.
FUCK the movies And FUCK ALL that other bullshit. The video game tie-ins, the movies, the toys! All of that shit is going to prevent the books from being looked upon as classic works of literature in the future.
They're good childrens books, but I really don't find much sustenance to them.
Anyway, I think the weakest links in the chain are probably the second and 5th book. Something about those two always rubbed me the wrong way. Despite the amount of Tom Riddle the second book contained.
I think that, as a series, there are gonna be plenty of people letting their kids and their kids kids read it, due to its orignal popularity. Each individual book might not have staying power, but the series as a whole is definitely gonna be around for some years.
The second book wasn't necessary...the first two books shoulda been called Welcome to Hogwarts.
well if you take into consideration how long it took to get them all out some probley started reading them young and as they got older the more mature books became, at least thats what happened to me.(not really a spoiler but still...)
Spoiler:
(actually the second book was kind of important because the diary was the first horcrux to be destroyed)
Youre all too cynical. Try to imagine a way that would actually have made the book more enjoyable instead of not terrible enough for Harry. And yes everyone ever should read discworld.
I'm sorry, that epilogue made me want to vomit. All it was missing was everybody holding hands and singing the Care Bears theme. Ugh.
Downsides to the last book: The Epilogue, one, and then the lack of foreshadowing, two. And of course there's the
Spoiler:
random ass appearance of fucking Dobby, because Aberforth sends him. But they don't explain anything, ANYTHING until well after Dobby dies. And how did Aberforth get a hold of Dobby in the first place? And what about the sword of Godric Gryffindor? How the hell did they get that back? I remember Griphook, the goblin, g-snatched it as they were riding the molten mountain of treasure in the Lastrange vault, but I can't remember how Neville got it to cut off Nigini's HEAD! And HI! Loopholes much? Harry died, but then he came back to life AGAIN! Dammit, fucker, stay fucking dead! And what the fuck was the deal with that naked kid trapped under the seat? That shit was creepy as hell.
Upsides:
Spoiler:
Molly Weasley. In the end she got crunk on Bellatrix, which was the jam, even though I swear they took the moment from Aliens. Ya know, old girl pops up in the mecha suit, and she's like 'GET AWAY FROM HER, YOU BITCH!'. When Neville stabbed Nigini, I was so, SO happy. Neville has been the whipping boy of this entire series, and for him to finally get some recognition, I'm very happy. Also, I liked the scene where Harry is going to meet his death, and he has the "ghosts" of his mother, father, Remus(I cried when I found out he died, he was one of my favorite characters), and Sirius walking with him. AND the scene with Dumbledore. I'm glad she added that, because nobody had any closure with him, and Harry had been so pissed off about him for the whole book, it was nice to get it, even though it felt a little too convenient, like Dobby's entrance. And, of course, the memories of Severus Snape, which proved him to be good after all. I'm glad he died, he kinda needed to. But I'm also glad that I was totally right, and he killed Dumbledore because he didn't have a choice.
I think that the deathly hallows were introduced to deal with the wand situation so it would not just be a repeat of the end of the fourth book. I also think that the reason that they weren't introduced to Harry was that they were one of Dumbledore's unfortunate problems and dealt more with his past than Harry's present.
