  • There's something about it that seems reminiscent of arcade game music.
  • I really liked playing Syndicate and Syndicate Wars back in the day. Uh, this doesn't really look like Syndicate? How am I supposed to get my "killing tiny guys" kick from this new game? They are not tiny guys!

I will grant partial credit if you can just run around and use the Persuadertron to get a flock of NPCs to use as ablative meat shields.
  • Then they all get run over by the stupid elevated train.
  • I liked Beck, even though it wasn't anything world shattering. Given the people involved, I'll probably love Apollon.
  • I saw the Phantom Menance today for the first time since the midnight premeire of it back in '99. I used to think that people judged that movie to critcally, but now I know for sure that George Lucas is a terrible, terrible, terrible, man for making that piece of crap. It dissapoints me knowing that A New Hope and Empire are still 3 and 4 years away from being seen on the big screen. It's even more dissapoiing to know that I'm going to have to sit through Clones next year when it comes out.

The only good thing to have come out of that crime against cinema was that the Episode 1: Podracer game was made.

  • Here's an idea: Don't sit through Clones next year when it comes out.
  • I don't understand your statement. If a Star Wars movie is in the theaters, I can't not see it.
  • If you don't like something, why would you submit yourself to it?
  • Forgive him, he lives in Florida.
  • If you don't like something, why would you submit yourself to it?

Because it's Star Wars. I even saw the animated Clone Wars movie that came about three or four years ago. I just can't pass an oppurtunity to see that familiar blue text and hear those trumpets begin that familiar song.

  • Finished watching Detroit Metal City and I'm kind of sad it was so short.
  • I guess this dubstep thing is big now.

Have you watched the live action movie yet? I thought it was really good as far as anime movies go.
  • Didn't even know it existed, I'll get on that.
  • There's a live action Detroit Metal City movie? I clearly have work to do.
  • Yeah Gene Simmons is in it.
  • Aside from that trailer being pretty terrible all I could think about was

  • They talk about the casting of that movie a couple times in Party Down. I was like "ha ha funny joke who would write a story that stupid." Like a week ago I found out it was a real thing. :/
  • I always hoped an episode of that would involve them acting out scenes from it. So much for that.

  • Valuable life lessons
  • Watched Drive and was not disappointed.
  • Same here. Just watched it 10 minutes ago.
  • So I just watched Harry Brown.

Basically it's Michael Caine as Batman, except he's elderly and living in estate housing in London. And he has no problem with killing the bad guys.

For that reason I loved it.
  • Harry Brown is a great movie.
  • Watched Safehouse and it was good, but I'm still listening to the song in the trailer.

Also saw Redline and the soundtrack was probably my favorite part from that as well.
  • Harry Brown is a great movie.

Watching it right now. Michael Caine doesn't pull off the whole 'old guy who will fuck you shit to high hell' nearly as well as Eastwood does.
  • He doesn't, but that helps his case. He's just this unassuming old guy who fucks your shit up anyway.
  • Best Worst Movie, the Troll 2 Documentary. Not knowing it was a Troll 2 documentary led to me believe that it was an analysis on how clearly bad movies got made based on the description of "Most people don't set out to produce a horrible film, so how exactly does it happen? This documentary attempts to answer that question", but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Its kind of weird that no one that that this movie wasn't going to be bad when they were making it, although I guess no one wants to think they do a terrible job. However there is so much about Troll 2 that makes me go "how do you not make a terrible movie with what you're working with" like how the dad in real life is a fucking dentist. The director comes off as an artistic douche with his "people don't understand my movies" statements and how uppity he gets when people say the movie is bad.
  • Watching Macross Plus; bought all four OVAs off iTunes on a whim as I still had some money left on a gift card and until now had only seen the movie version. It's even better when the story is given more room to breathe as it is here, and the soundtrack remains one of my favorites of all time. God this show is so good.

Oh yeah, interesting bit of trivia: Isamu's English VA? That's Bryan Cranston, of all people.
  • Watched Drive again and thought of this song.

    There's a soundtrack to Redline?
  • It goes DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN
  • And MACHINE HEEEEEAAAAAADDDDDD MAACCCHHHIIINNNNE HEEEEEAAAAAAADDDDDD

I checked out the sneak preview of Awake on Hulu and really enjoyed. It's been a very long time since I've watched a current new series that is not a comedy, but I will be eagerly awaiting the next episode.

  • I may have posted this, or one of the fan videos, earlier but no shits are given.

Based on that I went a head and checked it out too. I am genuinely surprised by how actually good that episode was. NBC has not had great luck with any sort of serious TV series since the first season of Heroes. I've got high hopes for this one. Crossin' my fingers it doesn't get canceled.
  • I'm enjoying the new Of Montreal album, though it's quite the departure from the last couple.
  • ^^After hearing God talk about it, I downloaded the pilot from iTunes, because I will watch anything with Jason Isaacs, and it's nice to see him get a lead role with the promise I'll get to see him every week. I really liked it, it's a cool idea and well-executed, but not gonna lie, I have basically no confidence that NBC will be able to maintain this premise as an ongoing series. Any faith I had in network television being able to sustain ongoing dramas like this one has been more or less exterminated; I can already see this show (if it actually becomes popular enough to endure) getting more and more twisty, they'll introduce a serial killer plot thread, there'll be someone who MYSTERIOUSLY seems to have knowledge of both alternate worlds, etc. Basically, this idea is unsustainable in the US drama model, which is basically milk it til it collapses under the weight of its own bullshit (see Lost and Heroes). Now if this were a British show, where we'd get maybe two series of like 6 episodes each, I could see it staying consistently great (and indeed this show reminds me a lot of Life On Mars in some ways), but alas no. Still, I'm pulling for it.
  • I totally prefer the Macross Plus movie to the OVA, but it's excellent either way.
  • I kind of do too, if only because I think the extended ending of the movie is much, much better than the OVAs', and makes up for the rest of the movie feeling slightly rushed; and even then nowhere near as badly as most compilation movies (probably helped that Plus was supposed to be a theatrical feature in the first place).

Fair enough. I remember the first two episodes of Prison Break being pretty cool caper/puzzle/suspense, and that show went so far downhill so fast, you're probably right.

  • Watch Hugo 3D, man that movie sucks balls. It's purely a movie where scorsese is stroking his own ego. Look at me and how many cinematography techniques I know, and I'm cribbing shot for shot old great movies. It worked so well for "The Departed"... It did get him a oscar, maybe this will too.

The film makes no sense and the eponymous Hugo can't act, had one facial expression the whole film. And he's going to be Ender Wiggin.

Roger Ebert summed it up the best "A movie about making movies...".

It's so f'king META scorsese, you f'king hispter!

  • I don't really feel like the Macross Plus movie is rushed. The scenes they left out where unimportant fight scenes for the most part. I don't miss them.
  • Well, maybe rushed isn't the right term...compressed, maybe? It's been awhile since I've seen it, so I should probably go back and watch it again to compare.
  • Hey, yeah, go rewatch it! It's a fun movie. I enjoy seeing it. Again, I don't really find it compressed. All it's really missing is the fight scene at the beginning with the Zentradi power armor and some combat testing in the middle. It's not like they cut out any of the scenes with Isamu, Guld, and Myung being all dramatic or any of the Sharon Apple stuff. And yeah, the ending of the OVA was pretty unfulfilling.
