What Are You Watching / Listening Right Now ?
  • I just watched The Grey...that movie was something else. I don't know if I liked it, I know I didn't hate it, but I was hooked watching it the entire time.
  • Probably because you're in love with Liam Neeson.
  • And I would be remiss if I did not also post this...
  • Been listening to bunch of Leonard Cohen over the last few days.

The good news: He's on tour. The Bad news: He isn't stopping in Ohio.
I'm currently wondering how far I would be willing to drive to see him perform.

  • The relevant Biblical passage:
    Spoiler:
11:31 Then it shall be, that whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD's, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering.
11:32 So Jephthah passed over unto the children of Ammon to fight against them; and the LORD delivered them into his hands.
11:33 And he smote them from Aroer, even till thou come to Minnith, even twenty cities, and unto the plain of the vineyards, with a very great slaughter. Thus the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.
11:34 And Jephthah came to Mizpeh unto his house, and, behold, his daughter came out to meet him with timbrels and with dances: and she was his only child; beside her he had neither son nor daughter.
11:35 And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said, Alas, my daughter! thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of them that trouble me: for I have opened my mouth unto the LORD, and I cannot go back.
11:36 And she said unto him, My father, if thou hast opened thy mouth unto the LORD, do to me according to that which hath proceeded out of thy mouth; forasmuch as the LORD hath taken vengeance for thee of thine enemies, even of the children of Ammon.
11:37 And she said unto her father, Let this thing be done for me: let me alone two months, that I may go up and down upon the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my fellows.
11:38 And he said, Go. And he sent her away for two months: and she went with her companions, and bewailed her virginity upon the mountains.
11:39 And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned unto her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed: and she knew no man. And it was a custom in Israel,
11:40 That the daughters of Israel went yearly to lament the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year.
  • Korean pop star PSY put out a new music video recently. That man can dance like no other.
  • Waiting for Gundam Style remix.
  • Just watched The Thing Remake (Flamethrowers: The Movie)

It was really bad and the CG was horrible.
  • It did have Mary Elizabeth Winstead though. Not that that will entice me to sit through it.
  • Woodstock mixtapes. Spec Ops the Line's use of Deep Purple and Hendrix got me craving anti-war music.

  • Still in a late 60s rock mood. Specifically that.
  • New Passion Pit, oh yeah.

Add some Clapton to that list.
  • And maybe a little Roy Harper. It's 1970, but close enough for me. I've gotten odd looks for walking around singing this song.
  • This is the happiest song I've ever heard and is slowly creeping up on my most listened to songs playlist. I still think that the soundtrack was the best part of the movie.

  • My summer jam. Thank you Fast Five and the fact that Jenn loves it as much as I do.

  • Re-watched The Dark Knight just now after not having seen it since it came out on DVD. Having put sufficient distance between myself and all the cultural hoopla surrounding it, I enjoyed it more than I used to. It's definitely the strongest of the three from a filmmaking standpoint, as well as the most cohesive (and least troubling) thematically and politically. While I enjoyed TDKR more and found it more entertaining, it's uncomfortably fascist politics and less sturdy plot put it in second place. All told, the Nolan films suffer from trying to inject too much realism into the setting and increasingly problematic politics, but taken as they're own thing they are highly enjoyable and, at their best, even thought-provoking. I have issues with the Nolan vision of Batman as a character, but I'm beyond the point where I feel the need to bitch about alternative takes on the character when adapted into other media. They had their own take, followed it through faithfully to its logical conclusion, and most importantly actually gave him a concrete ending, which the Batman of the comics can never really have (other than the "ending" Neil Gaiman gave him, which I personally hold to). Not bad Nolan, not bad at all. Now on to the next ones, and hopefully they won't suck.
  • I want the next batman movie to be him teaming up with Detective Chimp. Is this to much to ask?

Was my last years summer jam. Its a pretty great summer song.
  • From Russia With Love has some things to recommend it (namely the entire Bond vs. Red Grant sequence), but man, that movie is SUPER fucking racist and sexist in ways that make it incredibly uncomfortable to watch at times. Definitely shows it age.
  • A Bond movie that is sexist! INCONCEIVABLE!
  • Isn't the sexism part of the point of Bond flicks?
  • I meant more that the sexism is considerably more blatant in the earlier ones. It's the difference between the usual sexism we have in Hollywood action films and filming a gratuitous catfight like a nature documentary on animals fighting each other.
  • Saw Dark Knight Rises. Was largely fine, though I just didn't find it that interesting as a whole.
  • Just saw Total Recall (2012). It was alright. An entertaining enough action flick. But the more I think about it, the more the physics of the Fall bothers me.
  • That was the part that bothered you?
  • Watching Batman '89 yet again. I really don't know why I love this movie so much. Also, for some reason I totally remembered Vicki Vale guessing he was gay in that scene where he's trying to explain his secret identity rather than his being married for some reason.
  • Prolly for that kick ass "devil in the pale moonlight" line.
  • Still the greatest version of the greatest song.
  • @DG Well, yeah. As long as things are mindlessly entertaining enough, movies and television have mostly conditioned me to shut my brain off when it comes to stupid plot points or character inconsistencies, though there were enough of those, some really glaring. With the Fall, I was even willing to overlook the incredible properties the materials would need to construct the Fall, and not get into the aspects of everything that makes The Core unwatchable from a geophysical standpoint. But the gravity being wrong all over the place just really brought me out of it.
  • TDKR:

Generally i enjoyed it and thought it well done/delivered. Although I did not enjoy how messed up Gotham got, and had mixed feelings about the end of the story arc.

Also saw that brief Superman preview.
  • I heard this remix on the local radio last night and it was actually pretty cool I thought

I thought it was a bit reminiscent of Arkham City. Found it pretty interesting. Superman teaser was cool, but not as much so as Taken 2. That will be the truth.
  • I forgot I even saw that!
  • New Megumi Nakajima single. I'm apparently not allowed to have an opinion though since I'm a super fan, but for the record: 10/10.
  • Dreamwork's Avatar? It looks pretty good but the trailer song doesn't match it.

  • Dylan's Witmark Demos. This is my favorite song on it so far.

    Edit: Also a good one
