[quote="The Last Otaku"]I just watched some Special Duty Combat Unit Shinesman earlier on today on encore. God, I love that show. Also watched some Macross Plus.
Yea that show is pretty funny I've been watching Macross Plus too but only on Sci-Fi's ani-mondays.
[quote]It had not the magnanimity of the original performance.
I was going to point out that magnanimous means generous, but I think one of the archaic definitions could be twisted to fit your sentence.
To bring this back on topic, Shinesman is awesome. Also, I didn't realize there was even a pun in the title until a friend pointed it out to me: sha-in means salaryman or company employee.
Also, it had an opening song by Kageyama Hironobu. Damn, I have to go listen to We Gotta Power RIGHT NOW

I know what it means, the unfortunate result of in jokes is that if people don't get it just makes you look like an idiot. But that's okay, because I look like an idiot usually anyway.

Last week at the karaoke barbeque me and Jerry were rocking out to that very song while preparing hamburger meat.

Ah. Well, I found its use in basketeering (which I just watched today) pretty funny regardless.

Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai is out. There's so much that's completely distasteful about this show, but I still love it to death. I'll be watching the speed subs followed by a non-sucky version.
No, that's the problem. I don't know that the author knows anything about cars or racing or driving, he just likes drawing them. The plot is that the main character buys a souped-up 240Z that's killed its previous owners, and yet has survived the crashes without being totaled, and manages to ensnare a new owner (The "Devil Z" they call it) There's no climactic battles, they just both floor it on a highway, and maybe one of them will crash or something because of the "curse" or they didn't believe in themselves or something.
I read a page of the manga where he crashed for some reason, and his concerned girlfriend was like "Oh NOOH it's the curse!!" But he walks out all bloody and is like "It was me, I screwed up, there's no curse! Durr, I should have worn my seat belt!" Initial D is a lot like Hajime no Ippou, in that it has that veneer of realism and clear knowledge of the sport. Characters wear 4-point racing harnesses and drive with knowledge of turbochargers or slip angles or whatever. The author of Wangan Midnight probably knows as much about racing as your average Fast and the Furious fan.
Lots of pretty CG shots of the 240Z though, which is a favorite of mine.
